GP just prescribed tramadol for post sugery pain but I see it's not meant to be taken with citalopram of which I take 20mg .

Any advice ? Should I just be cautious and watch for side effects ?

I'm on 10mg of citalopram and have taken Tramadol quite a few times with no ill effects.

Neither the gp nor the pharmacist mentioned that they shouldn't be taken together though

Ok ,thanks .
It's tricky ,there's always such a long list of side effects and contra indications and I'm never quite sure what weight to give them !

It is not recommended due to the potential development of serotonin Syndrome. Google Tramadol-Citalopram adverse interaction there is loads of info about it. Any SSRI group of drugs increases the risk of this when used with another serotonogenic drug.

Mmm .

But citalopram also not supposed to be taken with omprezole and when I queried with pharmacist he acted as if I were completely mad bringing it up .

Ask for an alternate form of pain relief. IMO tramadol is not a nice drug anyway lots of fairly common side effects.

It’s good that you’re being cautious and checking first. Tramadol and Celexa (citalopram) can both increase serotonin levels, which means there’s a potential risk of serotonin syndrome if they’re combined. Some doctors still prescribe them together when necessary, but it’s important to use the lowest effective dose of tramadol for the shortest possible time and watch carefully for side effects like agitation, sweating, tremors, confusion, or unusual muscle stiffness. If you notice anything like that, call your doctor straight away. Otherwise, for many people it can be safe under medical supervision, but always check back with your GP or pharmacist if you’re unsure.

I also take Celexa (citalopram) 20 mg daily and I’ve been getting mine from this reliable pharmacy: healway.co.uk/celexa-citalopram, and it’s been working just perfectly for me. I usually take it in the morning with food because it helps me avoid any stomach upset, and over time it really evened out my mood and anxiety without making me feel “numb.” The consistency and quality are so important with SSRIs, and that’s why I stick to a trusted source. For me, it’s been a really positive experience, and I hope you’ll also find the right balance that works well for you.
