Insect repellent - any ideas

My daughter gets badly bitten in summer by mosquitoes and also midges(I live in Scotland) and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for prevention and also for treatment once bitten. She was out playing on Friday night and her face and neck are covered in bites. Any ideas?

We just use Boots own mosquite repellant if we're sitting outside on a summer evening. Sprays on easily. If we do happen to get bitten, I always have some anthisan cream in the house. I imagine piriton would work too.

my nain used to dab tcp on me before i went out to play, i dont think they liked the smell!
you could try hanging citrinella candles out in the garden, it keeps insects away as they hate it.

mosiguard can be used on kids

teatree or lavender oil also good repellents.

I would second Mosiguard - it's basically citronella so a natural remedy.

I also take anti-histamines a week or so before going anywhere where there's likely to be mosquitoes - these will also help once you have been bitten.

I bloody hate mosquitoes, they've ruined several holidays for me as I react so badly to them.

i saw a mossie repelling wristband somewhere - I think it was Boots (designed for kids) it must be impregnated with something, I guess.

Get some Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Body Spray in Soft & Fresh flavour. It is renowned for being the best thing to ward off insects esp. midgies (also has citronella in it so prob the same as the Mosiguard). Smile
