Im a contact lens wearer but since having ds theyve really been irritating my eyes. Anyway thought i had a eye infection so was told by the optician to get some optex eye drops and to return in 2 wks.Ive now been told that ive got an viral infection and to go back in 3wks time theres nothing i can do or take and that. Has anyone had this my eyes dont look particurlarly red but when i wake up they are very dry and slightly bloodshot.

It's hard to say, but you could at least use some artificial tears. Have you discontinued CL wear?

yeah i havent worn them for a mth now which is so frustrating. I dont even know what a viral eye infection or the difference is

[science hat on]
A virus is a little organism that causes disease - different ones can cause colds, food poisoning, measles etc. They're very hard to kill with drugs, much harder than bacteria. The Optrex would have helped if it had been a bacterial infection. Mostly your body fights viruses quite well by itself, which is what your optician is hoping will happen during the 3 weeks.

If your eyes are dry and uncomfy you can use Optrex or saline eye drops ('artificial tears', which are much cheaper) just to keep them feeling nicer, but the virus-fighting is all done by your body so there's not much you can do except eat properly, drink lots, get enough sleep etc.

Hope they feel better soon!

Thankyou Mrs badger for your help. I get much sleep anymore so i reckon that could be delaying things. 10pm bedtime for me now i think
