Sorry to be bearing bad news but my Onc has told me I have a limited time due to things quickly changing and growing faster than anticipated along with the having chemo that didn't do anything but make me very ill.

I have been in a very nice new hospice for the last 3 weeks but am now home. Here's where you come in, I have a couple of months at best and I
need some nice songs I want a humanist ceremony so no religious ones please. Again sorry to ask x

I saw this thread last night, but i didn't know what to say, words seemed feeble.. I am in awe at the strength you are showing, and send love to you and your family. Thanks

Given your strength and obvious sense of humour, i'd like to suggest something that will make your family smile, and hopefully sing along to at the time.. Don't fence me in by Cole Porter, it may seem a bit OTBT but the lyrics are beautiful.

EMIN

I'm so, so sorry to hear this. I read and lurked through your thread about your foster baby you had who was drug dependent. Your care shone through. Brightly and sincerely.

I cannot believe this is happening to you.

My song would be:

EarthMother, I'm so very sorry for your news.

Like others, I'm struggling to find words, but I wish you comfort and love.

I'm not good at calling songs to mind, but I hope you find your perfect song.

What about 'One' by U2? Always gives me goosebumps.

I've thought I would like 'I'll fly away' from the soundtrack to O Brother Where Art Thou? - but it has some religious allusions in it so maybe not for you.

A really beautiful voice and acoustic guitar track is 'Waiting on an angel' by Ben Harper.

I'm so sorry to hear your news, and totally admire your spirit. I'd second 'Come away with me' by Norah Jones, which I cannot hear without a tear for a good friend. I hope that the days ahead are kind.

I am so sorry to read this.

Everybody's Talkin' sung by Nilsson (theme to the film Midnight Cowboy) is a wonderful song, which speaks to my heart whenever I play it.

I'm so sorry to read your news. My DS is seriously ill and I keep listening out to songs that mean something to him.

There is a lovely song called The Rose by Bette Midler which is about love. I think it is beautiful.

I also love Be Still by The Killers

Close Your Eyes by Michael Buble is also beautiful.

Hi EMIN , I'm Topsy off the tamoxifen thread .
I've only just got back off holidays , so sorry I've not written before .

I'm so bloody sorry to hear your news . This is a bastard , bastard disease and I hate it so damn much .

I have a little file in my phone with all my instructions in it (no carnations , or I'll come back and haunt you type of thing !)

A friend of mine died , very unexpectedly , a few years ago . And I always remember thinking that her funeral didn't seem at all like her .
So I guess we are kind of lucky (ha !) to be able to have some input into ours ?

I think the flowers idea is a great one , I must make a note of that for myself .

There's also a thread going in chat (I think) at the moment , about lines in books that bring a lump to your throat . There's some lovely ideas there for readings (I particularly love the Pooh and Piglet quotes by AA Milne)

Wishing you much peace and love
Topsy x

Another humbled by your attitude towards your situation. My heart goes out to you and your family xx

Nora Jones is a lovely singer; also "Sunshine on my shoulders" (John Denver) came to mind.

Sending you love and hugs x

Freesias are our family favourite and I always think of my late mum & grandmother when I smell them. My mum chose her favourite piece of Bach when she knew her cancer was terminal. For my dad it had to be jazz.
My choices are 'Dancing Queen' -Abba and 'Sunshine' by John Denver.
A good friend went out to The Beatles 'Hard Days Night' it still makes me smile now. He was a larger than life character who worked hard and played hard.

Do you like "Somewhere over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo? His version is the one I prefer, I always find it both upbeat and poignant IYKWIM

I'm so sorry to read your news. I've not read the whole thread but I did immediately think of this song which was written and performed by a young American lad who died of cancer at 18. It's called 'Clouds' and is very simple but sweet and touching. Apologies in advance for the Daily Mail link

So sorry to hear your news.

Hello darling EMIN sorry I've only just seen this thread. I am so sorry. This fucking disease.

Today I took part in a sort of folk/hymn signing group and I know your first post said not religious but then you said you're not completely averse so I wanted to share this song which I learnt today and would like at my funeral, Dwelling in Beulah land. It is a beautiful song and I like the idea of reassuring my family I'm okay when I'm gone.

Also I'm planning to have this poem Do not stand at my grave and weep.

The freesias sound beautiful. It is your goodbye to your loved ones so the more personal it is to you, the more meaningful it will be and hopefully the more comfort it will bring you in planning and them on the day.

I'm so sorry you are having to do this. I cannot imagine how hard it must be. Please post on the Tamoxifen thread if you need anything at all. We have all been thinking of you and missing you.

I'll be back if I can think of any better songs. I think, especially with a humanist service, you shouldn't worry about whether songs are specifically funeral songs if you find ones that you like or that mean something to you and your family. Same with flowers or anything else, make it yours.

I'll be thinking of you x

How about 'English Rose' by The jam. it is very gently, no crashy crashy accompaniment and a tribute to you. on Youtube-

"No matter where I roam
I will "Return" to my English rose
For no bonds can ever tempt me from she
I've sailed the seven seas,
Flown the whole blue sky.
But I've returned with haste to where my
Love does lie.
No matter where I go I will "Return" to my English Rose
For nothing can ever tempt me from she.
I've searched the secret mists
I've climbed the highest peaks
Caught the wild wind home
To hear her soft voice speak
No matter where I roam
I will return to my English Rose
For no bonds can ever keep me from she.

I've been to ancient worlds
I've scoured the whole universe
And caught the first train home
To be at her side.
No matter where I roam
I will return to my English Rose
For no bonds, nothing and no-one can ever keep me from she"

Another one I like is 'Tiny Children' by Julien Cope. Appropriate title for your life's work I think.

Sending you love and light.

PS we had 'Old Man River' at my Fathers funeral. Made us all smile.
