Its just on my belly. I look PG. No weight gain anywhere else at all.

I've had the mirena since January but weight gain for about 8 weeks.

I put on loads of weight with depot injections but that was all over.

Its starting to really get me down now. I'm sure people think im secretly PG.

Does it go down at any point? Is it actually weight gain or just inches on your stomach? Is your stomach solid? You could be retaining water due to the coil but if it doesn't go down go in a few weeks go and see your doc.

MikeLitoris · 22/08/2013 21:36

Its definitely worse in the evening.

The only way to describe it that I look pg. I never weigh myself so no idea if I actually gain any weight iyswim.

Have you changed your diet at all?

Clargo55 · 22/08/2013 21:45

Could you be pregnant? May have been pregnant when it was fitted? Not unheard of.

Clargo55 · 22/08/2013 21:46

Sorry just re-read and you had it fitted in January. Opps think you would have known by now stupid me.

jamster66 · 22/08/2013 21:50

I'm the same Hmm. Coil has been in a couple of months and I look like I've swallowed a football. Don't know if I've put on weight as I don't weigh myself but I think I must have.Bleeding is worse than when I was on Cerazette (which I came off as it gave me terrible acne). Am really fed up with everything being tight around the waist. The acne was the only side effect from Cerazette so, as its the same hormone in a smaller dose with the Mirena, I thought I'd be ok with other side effects. I know if I got back to the doctors they'll tell me to give it a bit longer. Am totally cheesed off - wish I could take the bloody thing out myself!

No changes to my diet. Its not an amazing diet I admit but nothing outragous.

It took ages for the pain and bleeding to go away amd when it did the weight gain started.

I find im quite spotty since having it too. I definitely feel less hormonal though.

Sorry just realised I didn't answer your question! I'm pretty sure my diet is no worse than usual so my only explanation for the football tummy is the Mirena. Seems to be worse at night too, especially if I've been wearing anything with a waistband. I'm 100% convinced it is from the coil. Crap isn't it Hmm

MikeLitoris · 22/08/2013 23:08

Ah crap. I dont want to change. It has taken ages for this to settle.

I have got pg on the pill and depot so cant use those.

Currently using mirena and condoms. I'd love to be sterilsed but dp freaks out at the suggestion and flat refuses the snip (unless we have 1 more dc)

I had exactly that with the Mirena... It made me feel and look pregnant. put on about half a stone within a month and it was all on my belly. Came off end of last year and within three weeks I was back to my normal weight without any change to food intake/exercise (I'm pretty slim, just over 8st and 5ft 6, so I really noticed the extra weight gain)
I think some people just very sensitive to hormones - I'm the same on the pill. get depressed, put on weight etc
I've got the copper coil now. Heavy periods, but no hormones...
