It hurts to breathe deeply, right under my breast on the left

It started 3 days ago.
I have been stressed with my depression, but have never had this before.
I might have been a little constipated as not eaten as healthily as usual this week, and have been reading that wind can cause pain like this.
It's really painful, and as i don't feel able to breathe in properly it's making me a little anxious.

thanks

PC you know if you rang NHS they would send you to A&E, don't you?

piratecat · 22/08/2013 18:15

i don't want to go to A&E. oh bloody hell. grr. it's one hour away by car. and i'm on my todd.

what about my local tiny hospital, they have a bit where you can go for minor injuries. Would they be able to 'do anything' think they close at 6.

Or gp first thing. I don't think it's my heart, no sweating or doom or any other symptoms.

Yes, if you think it isn't an aortic aneurysm about to take place then I'd do exactly that. They will soon set you straight if they think otherwise Smile

Good luck pet x

piratecat · 22/08/2013 18:19

ok can't go to minor injuries hospital as it's shut.

Think i'll get to the gp first thing. thanks. I'm 44, my mum had a HA when she was 48. So it's in the family unfortunately.

Rooners, are you a medic?

OP posts:
piratecat · 22/08/2013 18:21

i'm sure it's wind you know, it's bloody painful. why would it be in the places i mentioned, it's a real stabbing pain when i breathe in it's really bad, and goes up my shoulder blade and neck. Confused

Doinmummy · 22/08/2013 18:23

It does sound like wind. It can be agony. Is the pain there all the time or only when you breathe?

RegainingUnconsciousness · 22/08/2013 18:24

Erm, you know you need to go to A&E, or at least ring NHS Direct.

Paramedics would gladly blue light you in for chest pain like that.

Ring.

valiumredhead · 22/08/2013 18:25

Strained muscle? If it gets worse then phone for help.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 22/08/2013 18:25

HA in women are notoriously different in experience to men. Ring a professional for advice.

chickensaladagain · 22/08/2013 18:26

Women often don't experience classic heart attack symptoms

Any chest pain that affects your breathing should be investigated pronto

I don't care if a&e is an hour away -go!

piratecat · 22/08/2013 18:31

i googled heart stuff and Pericarditis came up as a good match.

The pain is there all the time. dd wants tea, I'm not trying to make light of it, I would have to drive myself there. Don't want to scare dd.

maybe i should ring nhs direct then.

Do you have a friend around who could go with you to A+E? You could have muscle pain in the shoulder, as that can cause pain in the breast and armpit. You could also have a chest infection. I do think you need to get seem though, good luck, I hope it is something minor.

valiumredhead · 22/08/2013 18:49

Driving yourself is out off the question. Phone nhs direct, they will tell you to go to the hospital.

hellymelly · 22/08/2013 19:18

I agree it is better to be safe. TBH I would call an ambulance, as you are alone and can't drive yourself. I think NHS direct will say the same.

Rooners · 22/08/2013 19:31

Sorry I buggered orf PC. No, I'm in no way a medic - hope that didn't swing you either way.

Sorry.

I hope you're ok. Wind shouldn't last 3 days in the same place imo. IIWY I'd get OOH to call me back and assess over the phone.

digerd · 22/08/2013 19:58

Wind ime comes and goes even if that lasts for some time. Muscle strain usually hurts when you use it but not when relaxed.
Rib muscles will hurt if strained as being used every time you breathe in.

I had that with a 10 nights of a hacking cough and was agony.

As your DM had a HA at 48 you should have your heart scanned

RegainingUnconsciousness · 22/08/2013 20:05

OP, have you seen/spoken to someone yet?

Notmorelego · 22/08/2013 20:13

PC - I was in your position a few months ago. Eventually went to see my GP who said it was probably muscle strain (I run a lot) but did an ECG just in case. It showed possible heart disease and I am now waiting to see a cardiologist (my Dad has heart problems).

Sorry but you need to see a dr as soon as possible.

piratecat · 22/08/2013 20:16

no, i have taken ibuprofen, am sitting quietly and it's better if i stay still.
The ibuprofen because it's an anti inflammatory, i don't feel that it's bad enough to stress myself out over completely.

I was hoping for more wind stories tbh. I really don't have anyone here who could take me to a&E, but if it was worse i would go iyswim. Our surgery phone lines open at 8, so i will get in asap first thing.

I have looked and looked at the HA symptoms, but i can't have been having something like that for days. If it's angina, then the dr will help.

If it gets worse i will reconsider. I know if I ring nhs direct they will tell me to go, and i can't, but i also feel quite well in 'myself' iyswim.

Cat....I have just buried my beloved dad who died suddenly and unexpectedly of a cardiac arrest on 27th July.
Please go to hospital
Please.
Never ever ignore chest or arm pain.
I would not wish the last few weeks that my family has endured on anyone.
