I'm due for a smear test but hate the nurse - where can I go for it?

Last smear I had at the surgery, the nurse was awful. She really hurt me - proper jabbing action iykwim

It's still the same nurse, as she did ds3's jabs last week. She is good at those, can't think why. Hmm

I cannot go through that again (she is unfriendly too - never smiles, won't engage in light conversation or laugh or anything, so I feel stupid)

How else can I get a smear done? I don't want to leave it too long.

Ask for a female GP at the surgery to do it. Or indeed any GP.

I had an awful experience with a smear with our practice nurse and raised a formal complaint. They know now that I won't accept a smear from her again.

Please discuss your last experience with the GP - it's possible that you have low oestrogen levels that make things very uncomfortable. There are ways they can make it slightly more pleasant, but not all practitioners are nearly sympathetic enough.

Go to your local family planning clinic - ours is in the hospital. They spend ALL DAY poking fanjos and willies, not fitting it in between freezing verrucas and syringing ears, and they were SO much better at it.

Also ours is a nice shiny, friendly environment - presumably to get teenagers in. I'm never going back to the surgery for mine now.

Oh wow - thankyou both so much.

I didn't know the GPs would do it but actually, I'd rather go to the FPC up the road if it's something they will do.

I'll ring and find out. Thanks Flowers

(btw I don't think it was oestrogen related - she was just fierce!)

I get mine done at the FPC. They are open later!
