Heels and Back Surgery. Can I wear them?

It has been 8 weeks since my microdiscectomy on my L5/S1 disc. I have seen the physio this week who says my posture is not great (no shit!) but that he also thinks it's probably not been fab for a long time and may well have contributed to the disc problem rather than be a symptom of, although it is likely to have got worse due to back problem.

Anyway, he said I have a flat back in both lumbar and thoracic region, no S curve. Also have limited/no engagement in the muscle along the spine (can't remember what he called it!) on the left side, and limited engagement of the muscle on the other.

He said the most important things for me to work on are a) improving muscle strength in lower limbs and back muscles and b) working on my posture to get the natural curve back. He has suggested I have a rolled up towel behind me when I sit, drive etc, and I have some exercises to do both in and out of the pool as well as some cardio exercise to get my fitness back up.

So. I put on some wedges today, just to see how they look with some new trousers (and quite keen to wear them). They make me stand straight. They put my 'S' back, DH said as soon as he saw me that I was automatically standing straight.

So, could it be that it is good for me to wear these? Or is the pressure it puts on my disc greater? if it is putting my posture into a better position surely that is better for my spine and discs?

I am not talking about wearing stilettos or platforms, but some smaller heels would straighten me up? Yeah? No?

bumping for the evening crowd. I have put the wedges away for now, brought back my flats for first day back at work tomorrow. some little heels would really look better with my work clothes...

Oh I have been looking for you Pavlov! stalker alert

I have no advice re heels, but I have finally had a call to say that my microdiscectomy is in four weeks time. I have a 'relatively minor' bulge (ha!) at L5/S1 and have horrendous pain all down my leg at all times. I am desperate for this to work - I have had a nerve root injection and am rattling with the amount of meds I am taking for it and am still in agony. Please PLEASE tell me it works?!!!

Sorry to harrass you this way. I am also sad about shoes and sick to the back teeth of wearing flat shoes Angry

Yey! Tabitha! I love the whe 'relatively minor' descriptions they band about! I would hate to feel what a major one was like! Ok did it work? Yes it bloody did! Amazingly so, and immediately for the worst pain. Had some minor twinges in leg but largely the sciatica is gone and what remains is bearable. But, not a jot for back pain as advised. But now seeing a private physio to work on posture and rebuilding muscles etc. slowly though as only almost 9 weeks post op.

I am back to work today so got to shoot. Pm me any questions. I will send you a proper pm later with some more info...
