It has been 8 weeks since my microdiscectomy on my L5/S1 disc. I have seen the physio this week who says my posture is not great (no shit!) but that he also thinks it's probably not been fab for a long time and may well have contributed to the disc problem rather than be a symptom of, although it is likely to have got worse due to back problem.
Anyway, he said I have a flat back in both lumbar and thoracic region, no S curve. Also have limited/no engagement in the muscle along the spine (can't remember what he called it!) on the left side, and limited engagement of the muscle on the other.
He said the most important things for me to work on are a) improving muscle strength in lower limbs and back muscles and b) working on my posture to get the natural curve back. He has suggested I have a rolled up towel behind me when I sit, drive etc, and I have some exercises to do both in and out of the pool as well as some cardio exercise to get my fitness back up.
So. I put on some wedges today, just to see how they look with some new trousers (and quite keen to wear them). They make me stand straight. They put my 'S' back, DH said as soon as he saw me that I was automatically standing straight.
So, could it be that it is good for me to wear these? Or is the pressure it puts on my disc greater? if it is putting my posture into a better position surely that is better for my spine and discs?
I am not talking about wearing stilettos or platforms, but some smaller heels would straighten me up? Yeah? No?
