Have you got any rash or blistering?

jalopy · 14/06/2006 09:28

Yes. It could be obstetric choleostasis. You need to inform midwife and dr. Ask for a blood test. Sorry, need to dash, will write later. I'm sure others will help here too.

As Jalopy says you need to contact your midwife/gp as soon as poss.

I have heard of some women developing dishydrotic eczema during pregnancy - this manifests as itchy watery blisters appearing under the skin on hands and/or feet

threebob · 14/06/2006 10:33

I get this if I have penicillin. Have you taken anything you could be reacting to unusually because you are pg?

Calmriver · 14/06/2006 11:08

No, no blisters and no meds.Have an appt with the doc this afternoon for bloods

Let us know how you get on. I had oc in my last pregnancy, very uncomfortable to say the least!

jalopy · 14/06/2006 17:38

How did you get on at the doctors, Calmriver?

Overrun · 14/06/2006 17:46

Just watching this thread with interest as I had OC in my last pregnancy. Jalopy - I notice that you have had it, and are pregnant again. Do you mind telling me if you have it this time, and what advice you got about the likelihood of it recurring?

Good luck Calmriver

jalopy · 14/06/2006 18:09

Hi, Overun. Yes, I did have it. Not pregnant now thoughGrin. Had it in all my pregnancies. Didn't realise I had it the first time. Looking back I realise that I had mild itching late on. Second time I got it at about 37 weeks or so. Again, there wasn't much literature on it and midwives were not clued up on it. Midwife at the time thought it was due to dry, taut skin Shock. Very lucky that baby born well at 39+weeks. Third pregnancy, I knew I had OC and it kicked in at about 20+ weeks or so. Dreadful itching, especially hands and feet. Had lots of liver function tests and bile acids levels done. Began feeling really wretched by 36 weeks, lack of sleep, no appetite, etc. Baby delivered at 37 weeks when blood results were worryingly abnormal.
I can't remember why I wasn't prescribed the usual drugs for OC. Anyway, it seems that if you have had OC once, you are likely to get it again and sometimes the itching starts earlier each time. Good luck in your pregnancy. Grin

Hi All.

I went to the doc, but she said they don't do the tests and that I have to make an appt with a nurse instead...soooo I am going up to hospital tmw and getting them done.

I got itching at 37 weeks with DD, but it wasn't OC..not sure what it was!

The doc and midwife said very unlikely to be this early though.
Still makes you worry though!
Will let you know about tmw.

Thanks all.x

Jalopy, thanks for that, it's funny but I thought you were pregnant, and you thought I am! I'm not, but will probably not go for a fourth like I might have done because of OC. Thanks for sharing your experiences though
