water with bicarb of soda in it. the ratio is 1 tsp to 1 pint. I hate the taste but it does work. Alternatively barley water is good - and the sugar helps. Oh, and LOTS of it - for an adult they say 1 pint every 20 minutes. Makes me feel sick but the principle is good. And painkillers.

Take her to see the doctor in the morning.

Cystitis in a child can (in some cases) track back up to the kidney and cause a full blown kidney infection. Because the tbing in a child is shorted, this can happen more easily than in an adult. Get her checked out, and she might be given antibiotics.

Nothing to worry about, but worth being a bit more careful in a child than in an adult IYSWIM

Thanks for that.

I finally go a wee sample of her - should I keep it in the fridge until the morning?

Don't really know....

Getting a sample can be a real PITA!

Hope she feels better soon.

Cranberry juice is good if she wil drink it.

I would try and get a fresh one in the am if I were
you but if that's a pain then yes keep it refrigerated and the gp can test with a dip stick tonorrow and you may need a sterile specimen to send for testing tomorrow. You should take her to gp as wee infections can get serious inkids.

mosschops30 · 13/06/2006 20:10

My dd whos almost 4 had what i thought was a urine infection,i sent a sample away for docs which came back clear, the tests arent very sensitive. My dd was weeing about 6 times in 30 minutes, when she could go,there were times she was needing but not even being able to pass water at all.The doc said the test was clear so nothing else they could do even though she was still the same.Shock
I went to the local health shop and asked for somethign for a bladder infection, they gave me drops to put in a drink for her ands within 5 days she was totally back to normal

TooTicky · 13/06/2006 21:14

Loads of water and loads of love!

emkana · 13/06/2006 21:15

Thanks for advice.

I gave her a stern talking to today as well because she doesn't drink anything all day in school, which can't be good!
