Ear infection (adult) - ab's on Monday should it be getting better by now?

my ear was bit tender last week, and over last weekend got worse. Managed to get an appointment with surgery nurse on Monday and was prescribed antibiotic ear drops and tablets. Have been taking since Monday but its getting no better.

Ear now feels really blocked, I can't hear much through it, loud noises are tinny and sore, and I'm getting periods of really stabbing pains. Should I go back to GP or is it too soon and stick with the abs over the weekend?

(never had an ear infection before!)

I would go back to the GP, you should see a difference in symptoms within 48 hours of starting antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon earache is horrid.

Yes would agree that you should go back. Ear infections can be very stubborn to shift, and I thought the pain was way worse than labour pains...

in bloody agony all last night and this morning and have got an emergency GP appointment at 10:30.

wonder if they could just cut my ear off, I don't really need two!

as an aside, phoned GP receptionist (first time I've been to GP in years so don't know any of the doctors) and asked for an appointment with any GP today, got an appointment with a Dr , said thanks that's brilliant, can you spell that for me (or I'll forgot it by 10:30) and her reply was "don't worry he's as Scottish as you and me" Hmm.

I only asked her how to spell his name!
