I would like your opinion please, Which drug would you give at 22 wks gestation, between oral trimethoprim or iv vancomycin ? I won't quote anyone, just need opinions please.

what??
I am not a dr but the drugs are soooo different.
Trimethprom is a folic acid inhibitor and is not usually used during pregnancy if it can be avoided.
Vancomycin should only be given if the benifits outweigh the side efects.

Exactly, I don't like the idea of either, but apparently the infection (which could also harm the baby) is only sensitive to one of these two.

trimethoprim at 22 weeks would be the lesser of 2 evils as IIRC your babys neural tube will have developed by 22 weeks. ask about taking a higher than average folate suplament with this one???

Not a doc either, but I took oral trimethoprim in 2/3 trimester in 2 pregnancies due to several serious kidney infections which I was told could harm the baby - I was on rotating ab's to keep the infection under control and trimethoprim was one of the 3 antibiotics I was given in rotation - also took cephalexin and augmentin.
Both the babies were totaly fine. I was told to continue taking the folic acid throughout the pregnancy though, but didn't connect with the trimethoprim, I thought it was because of my kidney trouble (you learn something new every day!)
