Tummy button hernia - dd2

pacinofan · 09/06/2006 15:49

Took dd2 to health centre this week, whilst we were chatting with the health visitor she noticed that she has a hernia on her navel. We had noticed it but hoped it was 'normal' and would just pop back in. HV seems to think it won't and she will need an op later in her life.

Does anyone have any experience of this? And what causes it? What age do they do this op?

Tia,

took dd2 for 1 yr check a couple of weeks ago. she has what I would describe as an outie. Pediatician ( i am in the usa) said 'of course you know this is a hernia...it will cirrect itself when her tummy flattens out'????? So I wondered if all outies are hernias - I don't have a clue ..but will read the thread for pearls of wisdom from the rest of you

correct

might be wrong..but if you go to the chemist you can get something like a plaster to put on it!
In the olden days they put a coin on them and bound them!! :)

Is it a hernia plaster, with extra support? A tummy button truss?Grin

like a corsett!!! only jkoing, ask at the chemist they will help you! :)

unless dd is over 5 it will get better on its own. Leave it alone, don't strap anything on to it !

Absolutely - do nothing - my paediatrician said it should go in due course and not to be talked into doing anyting - he also said they used to tape pennies to them.

Dd2 has one of these, a tiny little lump just above her belly button.

She had it checked out when she was about 4 and they said it is fine, nothing to worry about and that they would only operate if it it bothered dd when she got older.
