Just had 3rd child and do not want any more (never say never). Dp and the snip - out of the question (the coward). Sterilisation for me is too drastic but I don't want to be on the pill forever. have just started my periods again and as before are very heavy. Any suggestions on what is the best long term choice which may sort out periods too.

Mirena coil? (i.e. the hormonal coil).

EmmaKB · 08/06/2006 23:53

Any side effect?

I have the coil, and it's not really caused me any bother. I do have a lot more back pain every month now, which I think can be caused by the coil. My periods were very heavy after it was first fitted, but after a couple of months they eased off.

I am going to get sterilised now, though. I really don't want any more kids, so I'm just waiting for my apoointment to come through. It will be great to not have to worry about contraception anymore!!

I've had Implanon and while it's not for everyone it's worked a dream for me.
It'll last for 3 years and altho can cause irregular periods I've not had one since i had it about 4 months ago.

Hi alicemama. Did it hurt?

No doesn't hurt as they put some local in but it will ache for a couple of days when lifting anything. But that doesn't last for long.

EmmaKB · 09/06/2006 13:54

Hmmm sounds good.

It doesn't suit everyone as some mn's will tell you but it works a dream for me. If you are ok on the pill then you should be fine, has exactly the same side-effects as the the pill.
You can always try it and if it doesn't suit you, you can have it taken out.Smile

Hiya Emmakb,
just seen this thread, ive also got the implant, and like alicemama says, some people can have severe side effects.
But, my side effect is not having a period (had it in since January!).
