Anyone with kidney problems? I lost a kidney, feel tired all the time and I'm worried.

Please excuse the stupid name, as I've name changed.

Does anyone here have experience with kidney problems?

Brief history:

I had a kidney removed a couple of years ago due to severe acute infections and a chronic infection that wouldn't clear up. The kidney had 5% function at the time of removal and the other was doing the work of two kidneys. I have normal kidney function.

I get tired really easily since having the op and I have started to feel dodgy again.

I have that really tired, run down, slightly nauseas and wooly headed feeling like I had with the chronic kidney infections. I'm also having pains in my kidney. The GP couldn't see any signs of infection, but I really don't feel right.

Could it just be imaginary? I'm worried and want to know what I could expect if I start to lose the function of my remaining kidney. If anyone here has lost a kidney, do you get tired really easily? According to the urologost and GP, it makes no difference. Thanks.

I have only one kidney as was a living donor for DH 2 years ago and I am fine. My blood results were back to normal within a month of the surgery. However the tired, nausea thing you describe sounds like DH when his kidney function was low. If you've had bloods done and the doctors say that all is ok then there is no reason that having just one kidney would make you feel ill. but have they checked properly and done blood tests or not? Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks violin. You are very brave to do that!

I didn't have a blood test recently, just a urine test. Perhaps I should go back to the GP and ask for a blood test to see why I feel so rotten. Thanks. Smile
