So DH has had a verruca for about a year , he has tried all the usual treatments and its still there. Tonight I've put a bit of banana skin on it and taped it up ( much to the amusement of the DCs and dog) but I don't know what happens next - leave it on,take it off??? Does he head off to work tomorow with rotting banana stuck on his foot??!

Grin I had no idea you could cure a verruca with a banana skin! I'm imagining him wearing a whole banana skin like a slipper...

Have you tried a patch of duct tape over the verruca? Someone I used to know had a stubborn verruca and this was the trick that eventually got rid of it

Tell him to try apple cider vinegar - it is bloody brilliant! Link here with lots of people who tried and it worked for them, plus hints and tips. Well worth having a read anyway.

I have had a wart the size of a pea on my thumb for the last year and tried everything with no luck, been using ACV on it for the last month and its nearly gone.

The same with two verrucca on my feet, but they seem to be a little slower but still going. I've had the verrucca for about 5 years and I'm pleased that they're finally going.

Cut a small square of cotton wool, soak in ACV, apply to wart and then put waterproof plaster over the top (this is important as you don't want the vinegar to evaporate). I do it last thing at night because it starts to throb and is pretty sore after a while, but by doing it at night I'm asleep before it starts hurting.

Remove plaster in the morning, allow skin to dry, then cut/file/scalpel dead skin off and repeat until it goes.

Re the banana thing, that's the one treatment I never tried as the smell of bananas makes me want to heave!

With the banana, you leave it on 24/7. Keep reapplying a fresh bit, in the morning, after work and before bed example (you haven't taped a whole banana to his foot have you? You just need a little piece to sit over the verucca attached with a plaster... Smile )

Bananas definitely work on warts. Leave it on overnight and either put a fresh bit on tomorrow morning or try again tomorrow night if he doesn't like the idea of wearing it to work!

Thanks everyone! Will see how the banana goes and then move on to apple cider vinegar.

I'm laughing at the thought of him with a whole banana taped to his foot - it's a small piece that just covers the verruca !!

It can take weeks, but the banana skin does work.

Ds2 had them on feet for months, we did freeze treatment etc. Then he went through phase where he couldn't be bothered washing much and it was cold. Essentially he had tight socks on 24 hrs a day for ages-his verucas just died and dropped out! I suppose it worked the same as the gaffer tape.

Different things do work for different people, certainly worth trying the banana skin.

I have done a lot on research on how to get rid of the blighters, I spent hours trawling the internet. ACV definitely had the highest number of people saying they'd had success with it.

Mine wouldn't have been such a problem had my doctor not insisted that it was a callus and definitely not a wart and to just leave it. Had I ignored him then I could have treated it when it was small and much easier to get rid of!

But then again he is a patronising old git and I now always request to see anyone bar him.

I used black nail varnish in dd's. it starves it of light apparently. It worked.

Chippychop · 16/07/2013 23:19

I used duct tape on ds's warts in fingers each night

AnotherStitchInTime · 16/07/2013 23:25

I filed mine down in the bath, put tea tree oil on then duct tape. Went quickly.

My mum used to use banana on ours as a kid (it contains salicylic acid like the bazooka type treatments). You have to put a fresh piece on every day.
