Well, okay, she isn't bald, but she is 3 and her hair just doesn't seem to be growing much at all. We have given her one trim since birth, but it wasn't 'necessary' - just to neaten things up a bit. My own hair took quite a while to grow according to my mum, but I am starting to get worried now! She is blond, and her hair does seem to have a slightly dry coarse texture, not baby soft like my other girl (who has loads more hair, btw). Poor thingy - she looks longingly at every sparkly hair bangle we pass, and keeps trying to wear my hair clips.

my colleagues daughtre is just gone four and exactly the same.
She is a real girly girl too and would love long hair....
No advice but lots of sympathy

Apparantly I had no hair until I was about 4 and everyone thought I was a boy, to my Mums worry and concern. Now it is shoulder length but has been waist length - it does grow eventually, it just takes time.
And its lovely when you can start putting clips in. DD1 loves it, which is great. Ds wants it too, which isnt so great .......

my dd is 2 and has never had a haircut; we have to clip her fringe out of the way, but the hair at the back only just reaches her collar! She still has her baldy patch at the back from sleeping on it, too

Not much comfort to you, but thanks for reassuring me! My 6 month-old ds is still a baldy baby and all the others I know have plenty of hair. He's very cute though

tamum · 07/02/2004 13:56

My dd is also blonde and had little or no hair until she was 2.5. I know another little girl who had hardly any hair until she was 4 and then it suddenly grew and looked lovely. Just hang on in there!

Clarinet60 · 07/02/2004 22:50

My ds2 has hardly any hair, at 21 months.
My friend's daughter was a baldy for years too - she now had a really thick head of curls, so don't worry.

suzywong · 07/02/2004 22:52

DS1 was so hairy we called him Tufty, at same age (5months) DS2 is really quite bald.
You just never know how the genes are going to fall.

Don't worry, your daughter will bloom

lydialemon · 08/02/2004 22:19

My little sisters hair didn't grow until she started primary school, and then it grew in to this huge mane of blonde ringlets. I used to call her haystack head

We are friends now.

My dd will be 3 in a couple of months. She has blond(ish) curls and has only ever had her fringe trimmed (once!). She was baldy for ages, so it's an improvement, but growing veeeery slowly.

I have 2 dd's and a ds. My dd1 was almostr bald until about 18mths and then sprouted long whispy bits at the side of her haed, which i refused to cut off until i saw a photo of her and realised how silly it looked. Everyone kept telling me that she needed her baby hair cut out. Anyway we kept on geting it trimmed and eventually ()at about 3) it started to grow properly and is now long and blonde.
DD2 is 4 and has mousy hair which is quite thick but just will not grow any longer. It also grows in every available direction so often looks a right state. Again i am just going to keep trimming it in the hope that it finally grows properly.
My ds is 1 and has more hair than his sisters did at that age. Bloody typical ;O
