Anyone else had thyroid problems. Mine has been overactive before, during and after pregnancy on various occassions. The first time was 4 years ago and it was treated with tablets but recurred when i became pregnant and then went normal of its own accord only to become high again after i gave birth. it has been slowly going down without medication but my last blood test was totally different- showing underactive, high levels of tsh and low levels of t4. the specialist prescribed thyroxine but i asked for another blood test just to be sure. the results are not back yet. Just wondered if this was usual and if anyone else had experience. I have been all over the place recently. just moved house and started to feel mega depressed but at same time having anxiety/panic attacks and fluttering heart. i also have muscle cramps especially in lower legs. my heartbeat otherwise seems fairly normal. any ideas ladies?

hi sunglasses, i was diagnosed with hashimotos thyroid years ago (where your body makes antibodies that attack your thyroid)and i developed a small goitre which was kept under control by thyroxine.basically it was like my thyroid was overactive, i was painfully thin and exhausted, felt cold all the time etc. it was only after my third pregnancy 16 years later that my thyroid has now gone 'underactive'. i think it is quite normal for it to change, the symptoms you describe sound typical. the consultant did warn me when i first got ill that it would gradually worsen over time. hopefully in a month or two you will feel much better when your thyroxine starts to get into your system.

I've just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and my doctor has recommended thyroxine. Not keen on pills, potions or doctors, but am seriously considering this medication because I feel so exhaused and worn out the whole time. I seem to have some kind of auto-immune disorder that is causing my thyroid to become underactive. More tests to come.....
Although after having DD by CC 9 months ago, I seemed to have all the symptoms of an overactive thyroid (although I was never tested for this). I had tons of hot sweats and palpatations and lots of other thing that come with an overactive thyroid.

I wonder if anyone's had hypothyroidism after giving birth that's reversed and gone back to normal without the need for medication? Just thinking out loud....

sunglasses, I am not in your situation as my thyroid has never been overactive, but I have recently been diagnosed with underactive thyroid, after nearly four years of feeling crap!

I just wanted to say that it is worth going with the medication if that's what is needed - I have been on it for a month now and am just starting to have days when I feel SOOO much better - I'd forgotten what it was like to feel energetic, and it's wonderful.

hope that things become clearer for you in due course, good luck.
