Brittle asthmatic, breathing getting worse today, have had a cold and now have cough and stabbing pains in chest when breathe.

I really don't want to go. I do not want to be kept in. I want an atrovent neb and if that doesn't work then magnesium and I want to come home.

Have been pouring ventolin in to my home neb with limited effects I still feel suffocated.

Just grabbing some stuff incase I HAVE to stay - but would rther come home. Have spirometery test at different hospital tomorrow with respiritary consultant.

Got phone charger, tooth brush etc

Oh you poor thing, I know this doesn´t help but I have the same problem and a terrible history of admissions. Including ICU more often than I care to count.

If you have a home a neb, would your consultant not prescribe atrovent for you, aswell as the ventolin? Its worth asking

I have both ventolin (5ml) and atrovent at home. It was something my consultant was quite happy to do, so it may be worth asking?

I also have injectable medication for when things get really bad, but I do also contact my consultant prior to administering this type of medication. Its quite involved in so much as I have to have specilist equipment to be able to monitor pulse, blood ox etc. But it has made my condition and life much more stable

Since I have had both the atrovent (had this in combination with the ventolin for over 10 years) and the injectionable meds at home my admissions have dropped massively, only 3 in the last year and only 1 of those in ICU

Apparently Mondays are worst day to go to A & E because of all the people who've held on through the weekend ,gone to GP on Monday and then had GP send them to A & E .

feel sorry for my bed neighbour! I have a noisy drip machine and am cough cough coughing although she should be glad my inhaled meds are being pushed through with oxygen and not a noisy nebuliser!

Yes am in a Ward. Very noisy non specific one. Dr said she trying to get a bed on respiratory Ward at other hospital.

They are giving you something you don't have at home- 24 hour nursing and medical care.

You took yourself to A&E because you realised you couldn't resolve the problem at home, at least wait for a review of your current treatment regime by the respiratory consultant on Monday. If that involves a transfer to another hospital then that what it involves. Going home before a review by a specialist is rather shortsighted.

I hope you are seen and sorted soon so you dont have to be in too long.

Hope you are feeling somewhat better this morning despite the noisy ward. I hope they can transfer you to a respiratory ward (or at least see a respiratory specialist) if you need to be kept in for a few days, although it can be noisy in the late evening with all the nebuliser pumps going. I guess you can't go home till you are getting better and off oxygen. Rest up while you can.

Been a change of plans by the professor here. Was stable over night on just nebs - no oxygen.

So am now going to be sent to the other hosp 10min away (which has the respiratory ward I may have been sent to) for the planned appointment I had and lung function tests

Meds plan is -

doxycycline
predniselone
singulair
seretide
cetirezene
atrovent and ventolin nebs

Have seen one of the wonderful respiratory nurses and she OK'ed the plan and went over how to do/take everything and when to go back to Dr if needed.

If they agree with the meds these Drs have planned and look at all my history and feel I would be ok at home then I can go. If not they will admit to a ward in that hosp or back to original if no room.

Fingers crossed that meds are agreed and that you're well enough to go home .
Monty I'm afraid that IME hospitals arent always synonymous with 24 hour nursing and medical care .

Hello. I escaped and am home :)

The thing with hospital is you need to wait for nebs and meds - at home I can have them on demand. But if need oxygen/change meds/different treatment then it good. And have been times I have been unable to walk at all so obviously then too.

Anyway at the other hospital I saw the big boss consultant. It was beutiful sunshne and hardly anyone turned up for appointments so as well as my consultation time I had a lot of extra time chattng to him - we discussed various research papers on asthma. he was wonderful.

I had spiro test done
Meds review - new meds added
CT scan arranged
Arranged to go to a new clinic
extra breathing tests arranged
review of allergy tests done last time
skin prick tests done
and then more bloods taken for repeat allergy tests as last ones were insufficitn.

So rather productive!
