My dd has very fine hair and I have started to use TREsemme conditioner on her hair, but have been advised that this may do damage. Can anybody advise me what conditioner, if any is best for kids' hair.

I didnt know any conditioner was bad for kids hair Shock

Who told you it would damage her hair?

I cannot see any reason why it should. The only problem with conditioner and fine hair, is that if you use too much, it could weigh the hair down and make it look lank - but this is easily reversed by giving it a good shampoo until it is squeaky clean.

If you want to use only a small amount of conditioner, then let it sit on her hair for a bit longer. Also, concentrate its use nearer the ends, rather than the whole head.

I would say avoid leave-on products unless desperate as conditioners are not particular nice products - they are best rinsed off.

(I used to do R&D on hair care products in a former life, btw).

Hi scienceteacher,

Thanks for the advice. It was my mil. When you say shampoo thoroughly, is that before or after the conditioner is applied. I'm not quite sure what you mean Blush

Shampoo then conditioner then rinse thoroughly.

Hope you don't mind me butting in Triomum!Wink

I think conditioner has been around for years and years, so, personally don't think there is anything wrong with using it.

i use herbal essesnces on dds hair and its absolutely fine

When ds had nits I used BizNiz IIRC to do the combing at first, then thought I might save money by using ordinary conditioner. After about a week of using my own conditioner ds developed a scaly rash on his scalp, which cleared up as soon as I stopped using my stuff and went back to the expensive BizNiz stuff. So I imagine that some conditioners might be bad for children's skin.

That said, we use conditioner on the children's hair every time we go swimming, and I frequently rub a little into the ends of dd's long hair without rinsing it, and they've never had an reaction to it used in that way.
