So, I have a problem down there and wondered if anyone had any advice on what it could be.

A couple of weeks ago I started to feel a bit uncomfortable, itchy and sort of a burning soreness down below - like I'd had a night of rampant shagging but I hadn't. It didn't go after a few days so I went to chemist who said it sounded like thrush and I took Diflucan and used Canestan cream but no improvement. I noticed it was more uncomfy around my urethra so thought maybe it was cystitis - took Trimethoprim but again no improvement.

Any ideas?? Its not bad enough I notice all the time or need painkillers or anything but I couldn't have sex or use tampons I don't think as any direct contact is a real burning type feeling.

I have an appointment with a gynaecologist but its not for another few weeks

No ideas but if you are able to go to a walk in sexual health clinic they'll be able to test you there and then - I've been a couple of times knowing that I've not contracted any STIs but knowing that something's not quite right anyway.
They can test for thrush, BV and other things straight away and give you the results there and then.
Might be worth going if you feel like you can't wait for a few weeks more for your appointment?

Thanks TreeMonkey - I'm in ME so not sure they have anything like that here! I have noticed it gets worse if I'm in the pool a lot so maybe something in there is irritating it?? May whack a load of sudocreme on and see if that helps..................

Once you have ruled out STIs, BV and thrusth worth looking at oestrogen lack - atrophic vaginitis.

I managed to find another clinic with a free appointment with a gynae and she thinks it a yeast infection. Had a swab to double check but some more stuff to take to fully clear it up.

Apparently its really common for newcomers to hot countries and spending so much time in the pool - not one of the side effects I thought of when moving!!!

When you are not in the pool, you should wear cotton knickers. Definitely not nylon/polyester fabric as that doesn't let the area breathe.

Agree about the word Fanoir - so french chic.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 03/07/2013 15:58

So op, did you go to the chemist and say your fanoir felt like it had had a night of rampant shagging?

Absolutely! Smile

I'm so glad you appreciate my use of the word fanoir - I have a very sophisticated lady area!

I was slightly more subtle with the chemist Its - tales of rampant sexing are not received well here.....!

Did the chemist recommend anything and if so, is it working?

JoandMax · 04/07/2013 08:08

I saw a gynae yesterday and have more Diflucan (2 tablets this time 72 hours apart), cream and a pessary - oh the joys!

Seems to be working though as I'm a lot less sore this morning. Fanoir will be back to normal in no time!!
