Rubber challenge - how to deal with the wound?

My (idiot) daughter did the rubber challenge with her (idiot) friends on Thursday, and I'm really worried about the wound getting infected.

She's been told in no uncertain terms that she's done a ridiculous thing and I haven't been very sympathetic to her, when she's complained it's hurt I've put a little germolene on it but that's it.

I don't know if I should cover it? It's pretty oozy and I'm worried that bacteria might be more attracted to if its damp. But I don't want to cover it and risk it not drying out and stabbing over.

Oh, should explain what it is - they get a rubber (eraser) and rub it in their hand pretty hard, non stop, until they've recited the alphabet 5 times

I have no advice but, bloody hell. And I hope she recovers quickly.

It does sound like a deep burn type of thing and tbh I'd be taking her to have it dressed (complete with searing embarrassment factor)

It could get infected quite easily from what you describe.

and you should speak to the school

Something similar to those plasters for blisters might work. The gel absorbs any seepage, keeps it clean and prevents scarring. Ask the pharmacist for advice.

Thanks both - have been in touch with the school, they aren't happy but can't watch them all the time etc.

I think I have those blister plasters - will have a look now.

I definitely have breathable burn dressings, maybe I'll put that on before she goes to bed and see pharmacist tomorrow if I don't have blister ones.

Apparently the next one some of the kids are going to try is the salt and ice challenge, what's wrong with them, honestly?

She's been warned what will happen if she tries that one.

I dont think you should use blister plasters - dont the instructions say not to use on broken skin ?
And I'm sure dont use on a wound thats oozing .

As far as I know the thinking about wounds is to cover them and give them a moist clean breathable environment .
Letting the air get to them ,dry out etc is no longer recognised as a good idea .

Film dressings with a pad - tegaderm - are good . Ask in a pharmacy .
Or cover with clean gauze and secure with tape . Soak the gauze off when you need to change dressing .

I have no medical knowledge or training so happy to be corrected on my advice but my mum has lots of weeping wounds dressed by District Nursing Team and they follow above .

Idiotic is exactly the right word.

You can get some dressings, they are gauze so allow air in but the bit that goes over the wound has a different coating so it doesn't sting.

I did the salt and ice challenge and it doesn't hurt but it does scar, I have scars up my arm but there slowly fading, I just wanted too know if anyone know how to care for the same result from rubber challenge on my face? basically, I popped a spot and it bled, so I just rubbed it to try and get rid of the blood and its resulted in the same outcome as the rubber challenge I really don't want it to scab over as I have dancing and other things and I don't want people to see it (age 14)

i did that today, it stings like bad.. yoy should put ream over it then a plaser/ bandage.... i havnt done it, i told my mum i grazed it pff.. it might stab...depends how deep x
