her GP put her onto the tablets about a month ago, but she is still really really tired, she is trying to keep it under control through diet and tablets. I have given her my old blood testing kit which i was given when pregnant and had GDD. Mums levels (fasting, first thing in the morning)have been between 8 - 12. that cant be right can it?

That is a bit high. I think she should speak to her GP as she may need to increase her dose of tablets. What is she taking?

I think a month is too soon to be moved onto insulin. Is she on Metformin? If so they will either up her dose or add a differnt tablet to suppliment (can't remember the name). My mum is diabetic too, has kept it controlled pretty well until recently when they added the extra tablet which did the trick. Can't mess around on it though you need to be much more careful with diet.

Good luck for monday.

What tablets is she taking, and what dose?

My dh was initially put on metformin, and it did take a while before his blood sugar levels were under control (can't remember how long though). He did then manage to lose about 2.5 stone (to get his BMI under 25) and since then hasn't had to take any medication (apart from Lipitor) for nearly 5 years now. He tries to exercise as well (although not much recently because he broke his arm!!). It really does help though.

Agree BTW with sue, they will prob. give her longer before putting her on insulin (esp. as her blood sugar is only a little on the high side).
