Dizzy when standing up feeling faint

Happened a few times but this morning was the worse had my 5 mon old dd in my arms but managed to sit down then get her in pram.
My oh thinks it cause I'm doing too much in morning before eating or do you think it's something else.
If it happens again will go docs

You can buy bp monitors for a pretty decent price now. You need to measure, or get measured your bp and pulse rate sitting down and standing up, because it can either be a bp thing or a hr thing. (Or both) or it could be a blood sugar thing.
Is it when you change position or is it when you've been stood up too long?

Postural hypotension (ie low blood pressure on standing). Are you drinking enough?

Defo get your iron count checked. Also ask the doc to listen for a heart murmur.

I was going to say get your BP and iron levels checked but I see I'm joining a chorus - do book an appointment to see the doc or nurse

When you say your DP thinks you're doing too much before eating.. what does he mean? How much do you eat in a day?

wishful,I have had the same thing since having dd 2 years ago I nearly always faint a bit in the shower sometimes in shops its not very nice I reckon its low BP caused by being a mammy!

It could just be from not eating, but I would second postural hypotension

I have this. You need your GP to measure your blood pressure while lying down, and then immediately after standing up. There will be a big drop and that's how they diagnose it.

I take medication for it and it's AMAZING as not only did it get rid of the dizziness, but I also felt generally more energetic and able to cope with busy days (no it's not speed or anything, it's just I hadn't realised that low BP was affecting my energy levels too).

Gaggia -- for god's sake, go to the GP! You don't have to put up with fainting in the shops.

I had the same, for a long time. I have been diagnosed with low b12.

Thanks all I've got a home bp kit somewhere ;had high bp in preg) so will have a look what it is.
Am eating enough throughout day I'd say, prob not drinking enough?! Have 3 cups tea in day and maybe 2 small waters evening but am EBF so probably need more?
Think OH meant cause I'd been up rushing around since 6 and it happened about 7.30 so hadn't had a drink or anything

You need lots more water, will help with both bp fainty stuff hr fainty stuff :)

if youve got a home bp monitor it will really help when you go to the gp as you can take your readings when it happens again, cos sods law is nothing will happen in the gp surgery and it will help them know whether blood tests and what not are needed.

Wishful agree see GP. In the mean time (it sounds like you may not be drinking enough) increase your fluid intake, just in case that is part of the trouble.
Gaggia, you sound like me. I had no idea feeling dizzy on standing and fainting if I moved too quickly in the mornings was not a normal part of being female! Apparently it is not.

While considering postural hypotension, you should also consider PoTS
It took a long time for mine to be diagnosed even though I'm a text book case.

Hi magso -- sure feel free to PM but I don't mind putting them here so everyone can see too. I take Ikaran, which works really well for me, although I also tried Heptamyl, which is made specifically for this, but it did not work quite as well.

I am in France though so perhaps they have different brand names in the UK.

I am also lucky to have a very proactive GP now -- my GP in London was pretty useless, sort of gave me a 'well you just have to put up with it' answer. It makes me a bit angry now actually that I lost so much time feeling rubbish! So I would really encourage you to go to the GP and don't let them fob you off.

Thanks dreaming - I had the just put up with it attitude too. The cardiologist suggested Bblockers for the tachicardia which I can't have due to dodgy lungs - and as BBs lowers BP I wondered if it would have helped or hindered. PoTs and OI do not not well understood in the UK. Perhaps I should move to France!!

Thanks dreaming I will go to the docs! I think it happens in shops cos I'm looking on the bottom shelf then standing up and nearly blacking out. I am a dafty for not getting it checked sooner

gaggia -- yes please get checked out! I know exactly what you're talking about. You really should make sure it's nothing super serious, and maybe you can even get some medicine or B6 or what have you to improve things.

magso -- I have to say, moving to France is not a bad idea I hope you can get someone to take it more seriously. I know it's not the end of the world but it's really sucky to have to put up with it when it's not necessary, there might be an easy fix.

I have vasovagal syncope/pots and was told to increase my fluid and salt intake. I've also been given midrodine for low bp which seems to be helping.
I'd second the advice not to be fobbed off. I'm 47 and have "put up" with this since my teens, after not being listened to or helped by various doctors over the years.

If you absolutely have PoTS then talk to your cardiologist about ivabradine - it doesnt affect bp, only hr and its been utterly brilliant for me. Hardly ever get symptoms now.

I had this several years ago and turned out to be low blood pressure.
I get it now, many years later and its high blood pressure.

It sounds to me like you are not drinking enough. I'm not bfing and have a similar amount of liquid by the end of lunchtime!
