3wk old, blocked nose

Ds2 is 3weeks old, and has for the last week and a half, had a rotten blocked nose. It mainly bugs him at night, and therefore keeps me awake! i know there is little I can do/give him (lots of saline drops, karvol etc..) but I was hoping someone knew how long it might last! He is feeding ever hour and half or so in the night (2.5 hourly during the day) which I think is partly comfort because he can't sleep properly, and because he can't feed as effectively. Basically, the broken sleep is sending me cukoo - any signs of hope for me?! TIA

Our DS2 was the same 4 years ago and so was our DD2 more recently so you have my sympathies.

I have found that the saline drops and carvol help a little and so does would nasal aspirator if his nose is runny or a pair of fine plastic tweezers if he is full of dry stuff. (I only do this when DD2 is sound asleep.)

So long as he is feeding well and putting on weight then I would not worry too much about him. (Sounds as if you know that already.) Generally, these things run their course in 7-10 days. Is your DS1 ill?

I hope you are getting more sleep shortly and that you don't come down with a cold as well.

Thanks Cadmum, it is hard to see the light at the end of the sleepless tunnel, sometimes! And I feel so sorry for the poor little man... Ds1 is fine, though apparently had a cold when I was in hospital having ds2. The weather has changed suddenly here, it has really gotten cold over the last week or so. I guess that combined with being a tiny newborn have caused it. Right, should go lie on the sofa before he wakes up!
