Hi all. I've recently had an abnormal smear, biopsy showed CIN2. Had a LLETZ done and the biopsy showed CIN2 & CIN3. On my first letter it said I would need a smear in 6 months then if clear every year for 9 years.

When I received my results for my LLETZ this morning it said I will need to be checked in 6 months, if clear I will go back to every 3 years.

My friend got tested every year so I presumed I would be too. TIA :)

Last summer I had an abnormal smear which after lletz showed as cin3, I have just had in April my six month check at the hospital with consultant for another colposcopy and smear which have thankfully come back negative and negative for high risk hpv. On my results letter I have been booked an appointment to have another smear in October with a nurse based at the hospital in gynaecology. After that I am not sure what tests I will be having.

It did used to be every year if you have an abnormal, but they started testing for hpv last April, so if you are negative for hpv ( the main cause of cervical cancer), you will have a repeat in 6months, then go back onto the normal 3year recall system.

I had cin 3 severe dyskaryosis in Oct 2010, I was tested at 6 months, then went onto yearly programme - then, as spookey has said, have been put on the 3 years testing again as was clear of HPV. I must admit, as much as I hated smears I quite liked the reassurance of them!

I go every 6 months due to my abnormal results. Normal is yearly for us.

Thank you all. If I do have HPV does that mean my husband may have it and reinfect me? I have to tell him yet. He was a virgin when he met me so I know it's all down to me :(

Mega - I'm not entirely sure as I also wondered this but I did read on one post on another forum where it stated that if your next smear came back negative then it means that you have fought off that hpv type and can not get that strain again as you have antibodies, but I am not sure if this is correct.

I am a bit worried though as silly says it is reassuring having the smear test so after my test in October I would like to have at least yearly tests.

Why don't you have a chat with the nurse at your doctors? Or call the clinic that did you lletz - I had to phone them as I got an infection after my treatment, and they were so helpful and said to contact them about anything.

Try not to beat yourself up, honestly, its hard enough going through this as it is - your husband would prob be gutted to think you were feeling guilty on top of everything.

Also, I have just thought (sorry for rambly message!) I am now clear of the HPV virus after testing positive when my severe dyskariosis was treated, which means my ex didn't reinfect me and we were at it like bunnies at some points so I think the antibody theory may have some truth to it. Honestly, give the nurse at your docs a call, it will put your mind at rest.

Hope your ok x

I think you should have annual smears, it's usual in America anyway and its best to be on the safe side.
