Large wood splinter under thumb nail can't get out and painful

Did this yesterday the splinter goes about 3/4 of the way down the thumb and is about 3-4mm on entry thinning to a point. The tip of the tumb is sore but if i touch it with anything it really hurts. This is on my dominant hand so finding been minus the use of my thumb a little tricky.

Been to the chemist to see if a drawing out cream would work, no as it can't get to the skin round the splinter. Plus i didn't feel like a big baby as both a lady and man their winched at the sight of my thumb.

Don't really know what to do any ideas greatful.

When this happened to me at work, they sent me to A+E. They fixed it quickly with special extractor tweezery things. Good luck!

Ouch!

DS had a splinter just as you describe. I took him to our GP surgery and the nurse removed it by sliding very fine tweezers down under the thumbnail and hooking it out.

It looked horrendously painful but DS said the short-term pain was worth it for the relief he felt when it was out.

Good luck!

Fine tweezers you say i was worried they would want to cut into the nail so didn't want to do that unless it looked infected. Still sore this morning plus my thumb is getting stiff as if hurts to bend to much.

My dd3 had on removed at A&E a few years ago, they soaked the finger in warm water for about an hour to soften the nail before attempting removal.
