I have a swollen tummy, mainly the upper part, gp sent me for ultra sound to check for gall stones=all clear.I then had a camera down my throat=a rolling hiatus hernia, i take anti reflux tablets (from doc) as i get quite a bit of acid reflux. My tummy is just so swollen, i am a size 12 and not obese, lead an active life style and try to avoid fatty food.I am so consious (sp) about my tummy that iam now wearing really baggy tops, (to others it prob doesnt look anything out of the ordinary,) but it does to me because i used to have a flatter tum.Iam not pregnant and i havnt had any babies.

You may have a food intolerance maybe worth a breath test with gastro team? Keep a food diary. Do you have any family history of gastro problems? Peppermint tea and ginger help with bloat, sickness, reflux. Do you take omeprazole/mepradec for your reflux?

i take omeprazole.my uncle has an ulser and hernia.apart from that iam not aware of any other family members with tummy probs.

I would try a weeks worth of food diary and see if anything triggers it. But try get a referral to gastroenterologist at your local hospital. They can get you yo see dietician maybe they can help. Do you get any pain with the bloating is stabbing, crushing? Or is it more distention and uncomfortable? Sorry for a the questions but my husband and his whole side of family have different gastro problems so I kinda live with it.

Thank you pipsqueakz for taking the time reply.i dont get any pain it is just swollen.I have been keeping an eye on what i eat and at the mo i cant see any food triggers.

It could be a lactose, gluten, wheat or cows milk intolerance? Sorry to bring this up but no change in bowels? Or grumbling sounds in gut? Don't answer if u don't want. Just trying to help work out a plan?

Do you get very belchy or windy when bloated?

Rhubarb78 · 08/06/2013 20:13

Could it be the omeprazole? It used to make me bloatedso i stopped taking it in the end, it made me feel worse. I am on ranitidine now which is much better for me. Maybe it could be worth asking your gp about trying something else

littlediamond33 · 08/06/2013 20:14

no belching or other wind.bowels all seem to be normal too.

As previous post says could it be the omeprazole have you had these symptoms around the same time? Deck go back to gp. Do you have any other medical problems that require medication? The reason I ask is I am diabetic type 2 and tablets I'm on affect my stomach. But I have no gastro probs.

littlediamond33 · 08/06/2013 20:35

No other medical probs.now you come to mention it,my tummy has bloated since iv been taking the omeprazole.

omeprazole made my tummy swell but it has truly flattenned (I have GERD and a haitus hernia) since I went grain free. And I mean flattened. I looked 6 months pregnant despite not being overweight. Now its completely flat. The acid reflux has decreased too. Not enough to stop the ranitidine totally but a fair bit.

pipsqueakz · 08/06/2013 21:09

Go back to gp there are many other acid reflux things you can take. I'm guessing its a process of elimination and what works for one person doesn't always work for another. Do you prop yourself up at night that helps reflux and a slow release tablet sometimes its the coating on the tablets? Good luck op keep us posted I'd be interested in your findings :)
