mumps and homeopathy/immunity boosting stuff?

Just found out today that last week dd was in contact with a little boy who it turns out has mumps. Her immunity is really low at the moment as she is just recovering from chicken pox so am anticipating that she may well get it. Especially as he did kiss her. She hasn't had MMR because she has severe epilepsy.

Anyway, am trying to think about damage control. If she's got it, she's got it, but wondering if anyone can suggest anything I could do/give her which might help her body fight it better. Am going to try and take her to the osteopath next week. Does anyone know of any homeopathic remedies that might help?

no homeopathic remedy im afraid, but i do know that almonds are supposed to help boost immunity.

jimjams or socci might know. bumping for you. Mumps is generally a mild disease in children, especially girls, so hope she is OK.

Thanks ruty - I'm mostly worried because I know her immune system is already so low at the moment. Afraid she won't be able to fight it. I always worry about her epilepsy with any virus/infection too.

HinC-do you have access to a good homeopath?
If not you could try searching for homeopathy forums and see if you can get some advice there?

I'm not a homeopath either, I'm afraid, but I'd be inclined to try and give her lots of fruit, with the idea of getting Vitamins C and A into her in particular - so red or orange fruit or veg for the Vitamin A - eg mangoes, peaches. Could you take her to a homeopath?

Thanks for ideas. We did see a homeopath when dd was very young. Could go back to her but she usually has a massive waiting list. Will try though.

mumping for you...and, if it helps, mumps isn't supposed to be as contagious as, say, measles, so she may well not get it. How old is she? Could you give her Echinacea, which boosts the immune system?

Unless you're in a very remote area, I would hope you'd be able to find a homeopath who could see you fairly quickly. And the one who saw dd when very young ought to give you a quick appointment IMO, given the circumstances; I would hope your dd still counts as her patient.

Just remembered! The homeopath we usually see will give a telephone consultation-that's all I had when DS caught chickenpox, and the remedy she suggested (Rhus Tox) was marvellous.

Might be worth a try? They either leave a remedy which I collect and send payment for (much reduced cost-£10) or I can at least go and buy that particular remedy from a chemist.

Thanks everyone. dd is 3.5, so old enough for kiddy vitamins etc. I'm getting her some of those chewy echinacea bears plus a multivitamin. Also trying for a good diet but unfortunately she also has diaharrea at the moment so not sure too much fruit is a good idea!

Anyway, reassuring to know it isnt' massively contagious so hopefully she'll get away with it.

No, fair enough re the fruit - I wasn't sure if she was old enough to have vitamin tabs. Hope she's OK again soon
