Snap Charlene1, I over rinsed and washed out the clot, I was under sedation and didn't even know I had been given a leaflet until I put my jeans in the wash and found them in the pocket. I went back to my own dentist and se put in a pack which helped straight away an soon healed.

could possible be where the bone was expanded to get the tooth out. do they feel hard not soft? if it is the bone it will take some time for the bone to reshape. but it should be fine. keep doing the hot salty mouthrinses hth

yikes! i've had several root canal treatments on the NHS. i have lost two molars, BUT these were both ones that had former root canals, including one w/so little tooth my US dentist had to sink a post in, but then absessed under the crown - one of these was b/c my gums had receded during pregnancy on the side i couldn't see - and one i was hit w/a rock whilst climbing, and both the crown and what was left of the tooth shattered.

i'm having a bridge next month w/my maternity exemption.

you shouldn't have to go private!

i have just been back to the dentist today because my gum where i had the tooth out last week is killing me, he said i have a dry socket put a bit of medication on it and said it should be ok in a week or so, but its really aching me. can anyone help?

I had dry socket too. I had to go back every other day for a week whilst they packed it in iodine - I think they should be doing the same for you. Plus take paracetamol.

It's umpleasant isn't it, but it does eventually get better. Although the iodine packing is uncomfortable having it done it does releive the pain.

Can I say that your dentist sounds terrible! Isn't three another one you can go to., Failing that ring and get an appointment every two days for them to repack, it should only take 5 mins.

jackieglyn · 31/05/2006 14:24

Hi suejonez when you say they repacked it do you mean some yellow medication on a piece of swab in your gum and hold it there for about 20 mins?

yellow medication sounds like iodine but in my case they shoved a piece of dressing soaked in it into the socket and left it there. It fell out after about 4/5 hours but they said that was enough. I had that done every other day until the cavity healed up too much to get any more in.

It took about 6 weeks to heal propoerly (they told me it would) though to be fair it was vastly improved after abou 2 weeks and just became irritating rather than painful.

Ask if you can go back again to have the iodine swab thing done - it does help.

Can you buy iodine from the chemist and do it yourself with a cotton bud? I'm not sure where you can buy ioding - don't know if its available over the counter anywhere.
