FIL major surgery, how long to recover?

My FIL has recently had major surgery on an artery in his leg. They removed a clot the size of an orange, in a 6 hour operation. GA. He had 90 + staples in his leg.
He's now home and has had most of the staples removed. Is getting about on crutches. His appetite is not back to normal and he is very tired a lot of the time. I'm aware this is all normal but just wondering how long recovery will be. He is bored and grumpy, due to the boredom and the pain. He is 61.

Good grief 90?! I would say give it a good few weeks. It takes ages for anesthetic to leave your body and it can make you tired, never mind the trauma of havong major surgery.

Yes :( Loads! From his groin all the way down. Leg was opened up like a joint of meat.
He's frustrated because he can't do anything. We keep saying he needs to rest and it's good he can't do anything.
