WORRIED! WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER?

My DD is 16 months and luckily is never poorly. Today, she was fine when she woke up, but after her morning nap she's had the hottest temperature. A t first I thought it must be her last teeth coming through as she's not eaten all day, but now she's shivering too and just wants to sleep! Anyone help?

Sounds like a fluey virus; I would phone your doctor for advice.
Check for any kind of rash, to be on the safe side.
And stay calm

No harm in getting her checked out probably just a viral infection they usually say that but no harm in checking and at 16 months you should not get any problems in getting dd checked over even at this time. Don't delay here any longer you are obviously worried enough to post here.

Just got back from G.Ps. Totally useless... You guys will be able to give me more answers than them! Apparently, she's shivering because of her temperature..so, do I keep her cool or warm? She was sick all over me in the surgery.. do we offer her food or not before bed? She's now flaked out on the sofa now... SO unlike her..

Keep her cool,strip her down.Don't push the food,fluids are more important.Have you given her paracetamol/nurofen?If not give one now.

Ps.It says on that link to cover her up with a duvet if she is shivering.Don't Shivering is her body try to get the temp down,if necessary bathe her arms,legs and forehead with a sponge/flannel and tepid water,let the dampness evaporate.
She will probably bawl,because she will feel awfully uncomfortable while you are doing it.As soon as the temp comes down a bit the shiverring will stop.

It's strange, she's boiling on her forehead but she's not sweating...?

don't go by forehead temp .. go by the temp on the back of her neck .. use your lips if it feels hot to kiss she's hot

strip her off, dose her with calpol and nurofen and give her fluids if she'll take them

try not to worry unduly

do you have a thermometer? not that you need one .. but you may find it reassuring

small regular sips of water. Don't worry about food for a day or so, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen at the prescribed intervals- used together, they keep the temp down for longer.
Remember the temp is there as it is showing your dd is trying to fight a virus or infection.
Did the GP check her ears and throat?
Keep her in a light vest in a well ventilated room, lots of rest adn lots of cuddles.
MY dd is 3.5 and gets very high temps, today with her cough (another chest infection) she pipped at 40 degrees but was trotting around, not as bright as usual but still talking and stuff. It affects different kids different ways.
