Severe Abdominal Pain - Kidney Stones ?? Or Other Ideas ??

I've spent a hellish weekend in sheer agony, barely touched by the codeine I have for other complaints & as I couldn't get an appointment with my GP (who TBH isn't brilliant) took myself off to A&E.

They were very sympathetic & seemed thorough, but bar offering to hook me up with a cannula for stronger opiates to sort out the pain - which I turned down as I feel nauseous enough without - they basically ruled out a few obvious nasties & sent me home -

I'm still in a lot pain, though thankfully down a few notches, & no real answers, bar they've ruled out infection, pancreas trouble, liver problems - which I think also means gall bladder -

It showed up that there is blood in my urine & my kidney function is abnormal, though I already have a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease 3 - which my GP &Renal until are still looking into, but they seem to be going with of no know cause & get on with it - so renal impairment is "normal" for me.

I have been getting a similar sort of pain lowdown on my right side abdomen, shooting into my groin - again so painful it has me panting - my GP agrees this sounds like kidney stones, asked for a urine sample during a flare - up - Sod's law has it that flare ups of this pain have been weekends, or the one urine sample I did manage to get weekdays, took second pace to a call to DDs school & a trip to A&E with her.

This pain I now have is very bad, centred aprox 2 inches above my naval & about the same distance over to the right side abdomen, this isn't a new pain, I've been getting it on & off for years in exactly the same spot, but got nowhere with either my GP or a previous trip to A&E - lying down & putting pressure on it doesn't hurt so much, but putting pressure on the spot when sanding will gave me yelping

At A&E today, the kidney on that side was tender to touch, but nothing like as painful as the area of my abdomen.

Its a sharp, grabbing short of pain, 9/10 on a pain scale - I've luckily got a high tolerance to pain, but this is too much, I can't think straight' I'm panting with it & feel like I've been stabbed. I think childbirth may have been easier

I keep getting flashes of extreme heat, suddenly sweating to the point of dripping from my forehead & feeling as if I'm about to pass out - white out

My bladder feels very irritable, I constantly feel like I want to urinate

I have been quite "burpy" & feel very sick, but haven't been sick - I also have a low grade headache, but again that can be normal for me

Kidney stones ?? Ideas ??

A friend of mine had gallstones that didn't show up on ultrasound. Took an MRI to find them, after the pain got worse and she was admitted to hospital.

Sounds horrid, you poor love. I did wonder about diverticulitis too, when you described the area of pain - did they mention that as a possibility??

Sounds similar to my symptoms that were a torted ovary, was complete agony. Mine turned out to be ovarian cancer so would certainly recommend having it investigated further.

Good morning everyone, thanks for the replies & kind thoughts - appologise for slow to reply, I ended up having to take DD to A&E yesterday evening too boy could I have done without that, but turns out she's torn her neck muscle, so she was in a lot of pain & DH works an hours drive away & no one else nearby I could call on that quickly, so it was a case of needs must I suppose, but I coped & DH met me there as soon as he could get there.

I think I now have my answer too - Gallstones, though still trying to get to see a GP, thinking of going up to a local medical centre later, but bringing DD home from school for lunch so will go after that.

I've got to be honest, now I've come round a bit more & have read up & can see what it was, I do feel very let down by A&E, symptoms I had was pretty classic for Gallbladder - I even mentioned it feeling similar to a Gallbladder infection I had when younger, though I didn't have acid at that point & the pain did last longer than I'm reading is normal,in that it was a few days, rather than hours, but the area of pain, burping & sweating was a give away -

whilst sat with DH & DD in A&E it felt as if something suddenly dislodged itself & I suddenly had a load of acid hit me, pain changed to burning pain & I could feel it in my throat too - DH went to local shop & got my Andrews which helped whilst waiting in kids A&E - & took Gaveston on getting home & pretty much passed out on the sofa & slept for several hours - woke up with raging sore throat from the acid, - & I've since passed what looks like a huge stone - it floated so I could see it clearly, but was about the size of my thumb nail[shock

The pain has eased right down, more tender now than the awful grabbing sharp pain I had over the weekend & though still feeling rough, big improvement all round, hopefully I will be taken more seriously when I see a doctor later.
