You all out there? Pop this way!

OP posts:
topsyturner · 20/05/2013 22:33

And ouch to you Gracie for your poor shoulder and your poor mum too .

How's the shingles pain tonight kk ?
Are you high on the meds ?

Sometimesiwonder · 20/05/2013 22:46

Topsy, he's a bloke what DO you expect?

Figgy, I will be thinking of your dh for Thursday. My BIL had a kidney removed following a cancer diagnosis last November. He has secondaries but they are slow growing and he's doing really well recovering from the surgery and having only monitoring for the secondaries. I think he has had some considerable discomfort but doable, so I hope you can take comfort. It's a bastard and no mistake, but hopefully you will both cope. Much love.x

Love to Gigs and everyone else with appointments - and worries. To tired to be more specific.

Taking dd to get her toenail removed tomorrow. Yak!!! Got badly cracked playing football and we've been taping it ever since. That baby needs to come off Envy

malteserzz · 20/05/2013 22:48

Topsy thank god he's gone to bed then ! Think you were very good making him tea
And please moan away as it makes a change from me doing it
Are you going to bed ? I'm watching the end of Bridget jones

topsyturner · 20/05/2013 22:55

I'm tired , but if I go up to bed before I hear him snoring , I'm liable to beat him to death with my kindle GrinGrinGrin

sparklesunshine · 21/05/2013 03:49

The girls are back! I enjoyed the break but it's good to feel excited to see them. They were both all grins when they came in with lots of stories to tell me. Hopefully they can do it again.

Figs hope your dh is ok. It's interesting to see someone on the other side of the equation. It must be extra hard to watch if you've already been through it yourself.

Gigs good to hear you're healing well.

I finally got out the last bit of either stitching or superglue cover from my sentinel lymph node scar a month and a half ago. Had to take tweezers to pull it out, but at least it's now settled and can heal.

I've got my second oncologist appointment tomorrow so will be asking a ton of questions. From the reading I've been doing if I make it 2 years with no mets my odds improve a lot. Something to focus on... I can do two years (crosses fingers and toes).

malteserzz · 21/05/2013 04:33

Am awake, bugger. ! Tried half a sleeping tablet instead of whole. I have slept till now so not too bad I suppose
Sparkle must be lovely to have your girls back, you must be new to this like me if you've just had your op, apologies if you've already said my brain is mush at the minute. Good luck for your appointment tomorrow

Dh and I are going away for the night on Saturday, I did ask if he thought I would be our last night away together but he said if he thought that we'd be going somewhere a bit more exotic than Guildford!
Hope everyone else is asleep

Gigondas · 21/05/2013 06:26

Morning all.

Sparkle-think focussing on two years is a good idea . Also meant to say can see how tricky it is living with your mum.

Malt-dh is right. This won't be your last night away. Half a sleeping tab good. I found that I got into bad habits with sleeping ( was moaning about it a week or two ago) so had to retrain myself to sleep thru.

Topsy- Grin at man flu. People don't understand how serious that is. But don't break a kindle on him.

Got to haul my arse into school to see big gig teacher. Will give lovely nanny a break. Both nannies we have now are ace (after horror loony nanny we had no was unreliable and emotional then finally quit).

The main nanny is pregnant which is good as can offload all baby kit on and it's also really exciting ESP for big gig. She was getting some odd ideas about pregnancy as mixed it up with me being ill and decided that didn't want a c section as was appalled at idea if it. Seeing nanny just getting on with life normally has really helped.

trice · 21/05/2013 06:29

Figgy, I do hope your Dh gets through his echocardiogram calmly. I had one a few weeks ago. The lady who did it was a very pretty, tiny oriental lady. Her arms were so short she had to cuddle me to get the ultra sound in the right place. It took about 40 mins so I felt quite close to her by the end of the session!

I am feeling fine so far, more pills in an hour. It feels good to be doing something constructive.

Good luck any dcs with exams today.

topsyturner · 21/05/2013 07:34

Well karma came and bit me on the arse good and hard last night !
Mr Topsy has been up all night vomiting Hmm
Poor sod can't even keep water down
Bad Wife Topsy , Baaaaaad Wife ...

topsyturner · 21/05/2013 07:34

Whoops , sorry about the stutter !

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/05/2013 07:56

oh dear, poor Mr topsy - hope he feels better soon.
Good luck with onc appointment sparkle- glad the gluey stuff is out.
malt the pre-op thing will be fine and dandy, just loads of questions really and a few tests...also measuring for lovely surgical stockings !
Any relief from shingles kk ? do hope so,it sounds totally miserable.
Hope seeing big gig's teacher goes well gig - preg. nanny sounds lovely.
sometimes poor dd and toenail - the thought has made me feel a bit queasy- hope it's quickly done and not sore.
No exams for T today but have added sliced banana and blueberries to his cereal for good measure

Gigondas · 21/05/2013 08:01

Poor mr topsy-sounds like the lovely bug big gig brought home which was no fun .

Ocado here so chocolate, jam tarts and bagels for trolley

sparklesunshine · 21/05/2013 08:08

Oh no Topsy! Man flu is taking its revenge.

malteserzz · 21/05/2013 08:35

Morning all, again lol
Topsy sorry but that's made me laugh he obviously was really feeling ill !
Trice glad the meds are going ok so far
MAS sounds like you're increasing his brain power ! They said we'd be there for hours tomorrow for Pre op which sounds scary, what's the worst thing they'll do ?
Gigs good luck with the teacher

I'm knackered again after waking v early so got my feet up this morning then going out for lunch with lovely friends

trice · 21/05/2013 09:05

Malt - if I remember the pre op will be blood pressure, blood test, mrsa swab (either up your nose or down your pants) weight and height, poss consent forms. And lots of tick boxes. It will be good because you will feel you are getting somewhere.

My Dh is in a truly filthy mood today. He is off work caring for me and has got to the end of his tether. He is pissed off because the house is a tip and we keep having visitors. He is currently cleaning out dd s rat. Brave man.

malteserzz · 21/05/2013 09:32

Thanks trice, I feel pretty healthy but hoping they don't find something else wrong with me. Dh said to me last night that I'm worried that they'll just say no we won't bother with you and stupid as it sounds that is what I've been thinking he knows me too well!
Sorry yours is in a bad mood, i know we moan about them but it can't be easy for them either. Can he go out and do something for himself for an hour or so then he might feel more able to cope when he gets back.

topsyturner · 21/05/2013 09:50

You'll prob have an ECG and a chest X-ray too Malt
All very standard in my hospital to have the above tests , plus bloods , height , weight etc .
But it does vary from hospital to hospital .
I also had MRI , CT , and bone density scans .
But that was to get my base line before chemo .

Trice maybe we should lock our husbands in a dungeon room together ?
When mine isn't vomiting , he practises "Angry Tidying" when feeling stressed Grin

malteserzz · 21/05/2013 10:10

Is he still puking topsy?
I feel such a wuss compared to you all worried about everything but yes will be good to get things started ( I suppose )

smee · 21/05/2013 10:10

Have you had scans already Malt, can't remember. But if so, then pre-op's probably just MRSA swabs, BP, temp, height, weight and a chat to a nurse. That's all they do at our hospital. Your DD keeps a rat?! Shock

Poor Mr T. Though really hope you're not next in line, Topsy.

Trice, why's he angry? Has he only just discovered housework?! Grin

Waving over the seas to Sparkle. Two years is a v.good marker. I was told that too. Hope Onc proves question friendly. Smile

Kurri, how's the shingles?? Gentle hugs from me. Smile

Sometimes, if my DH had to have a toenail removed I just can't imagine the drama of it all. He's not known for his bravery. Hope DD's the stoic sort. Grin

Wonder what teacher will suggest Gig. Your DD's so very little though, plenty of time to conform I reckon. V.sweet about nanny.

Nowt to say here. Jealous of MAS and her day out. Mountains of work to do, so had better get on. Brew for anyone? Smile

malteserzz · 21/05/2013 10:28

Smee I've only had a mammo ultrasound and biopsy I think my consultant said other ones would be if they found out it was in the nodes.Ill wait and see tomorrow I guess, need to be stronger and not such a wuss!
Hope you're getting on with your work now !

Copthallresident · 21/05/2013 10:37

trice I can't imagine DH caring for me for more than a day without starting to get grumpy and certainly would never do any ablutions for pets or humans! As well as manflu he suffers from some weakness in his oesophagus that means any sort of human or animal poo or sick causes melodramatic fits of gipping which rise in volume until some mug takes pity. He may have changed a nappy once or twice but never without a great deal of fuss and suffering. So I am well impressed with rat cleaning, which actually I wouldn't do either , phobic about their tails.....

Glad you are relieved to be finally embarked on chemo. How are your bumps and bruises from the fall?

topsy poor mr Topsy . Hope he feels better soon but that would have been me too, except I also start throwing the kindle when he starts snoring. I wasn't around last night but rereading you are only a mystery to doctors because they don't know about power of Sauron. [Grin] Also with you not feeling great of late and mr Topsy's bugs , hardly surprising if node inflamed.

figgy I hope all goes well with Dh, my surgeon quoted that surgery to highlight what a breeze a mastectomy was Hmm because no muscle involved so must be daunting . It must help a little to have been through similar process of coming to terms with it all yourself, there has to be some use for this sodding experience.

Sparkle I think there are various milestones in terms of improving your odds. We were quoted a year as on as well, they improve rapidly at first before levelling off until at 5 years you are less likely to die of breast cancer than the average woman which is a jolly good statistic. Very early on when I came to terms with it all I decided that deep inside instinctively I knew I was going to be around to my mid 60s Hmm based on nothing but woo, now I am in my mid Fifties that is looking really not good enough Grin

malt there is such a need for this pre OP thing to be a prolonged traumatic experience that they didn't do one 12 years ago, sounds like they have dreamt up a bureaucratic exercise and you will be kept waiting at their convenience whilst they tick all the boxes.

gigs Hope it goes well with big gigs teacher. I always found it good to convey that I was not remotely an alpha mother as this seemed to kick in less defensive, more human approach but also that when we returned from HK headmistress very alarmingly embraced me , thus causing alpha mums to go into full on paranoia, how come she is more in with Head than us, and probably an assumption I was bribing her....... And they would have to up the Christmas pressie to two crates of champagne.....[ grin]

Absolutely terrible nights sleep, sorry I didn't come on here malt but thought light from screen might increase wakefulness. How can you be cold and sweaty at same time? Aim definitely taking a sleeping pill tonight as refuse to be zombie at Chelsea. Also it is good for the ego that average age of members is 103 and so you feel very young, so don't want to be feeling 103.....

Copthallresident · 21/05/2013 10:42

malt have they warned you there will be scans? Mine were piecemeal, some after surgery.

malteserzz · 21/05/2013 11:23

No they haven't mentioned scans yet I got the impression it was like a general health check just asked dh and he said the same so not sure why I'm getting in a state about it
Off out for lunch soon so I'll leave you all in peace Grin

smee · 21/05/2013 11:40

Have a nice lunch, Malt. Smile

Copt, take that pill tonight. Can't have you falling into the floral beds. Grin I went to the GP this morning and was so tired, I forgot to ask about sleeping pills. D'oh! Was only there to get repeat prescription reviewed, but did mean to see if they might suggest something.

Really should be working, but did anyone see that clip on Have I Got News For You' of men feeling simulated child birth pains? v.funny. They were writhing in agony. Grin
