coorong · 19/05/2013 17:33

Sorry for ignorance, but is there a Facebook group - I'm not on FB, should I be?

malteserzz · 19/05/2013 17:39

Have sent you a PM MAS let me know if you've got it as its the 1st I've sent, have only replied before !

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 17:59

Mas Good luck to T Three in one day? That's not a great fall of the dice. Just as well he has had all those healthy snacks to build his stamina.

Coorong Facebook can be as big a timegobbler as this place but I first went on it to keep up with nephew travelling the world, then got ambushed by Hong Kong friends, then uni friends, then even previously unknown cousins Shock (Uncle is black sheep) and on the whole "a good thing" as long as don't accept marriage proposals from strange men Grin who then try again 20 minutes later with your DSIL!!!!

topsyturner · 19/05/2013 18:13

I've read a few of the Lyndsay Davies books , and quite like them .
Most of my books are detective thrillers and serial killer fiction , so I welcome new author recommendations (my bookshelves make me look psychotic Grin )

Feeling the need for chocolate now . Head must be starting to feel better .

Good luck to all the boys and girls with exams this week .

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 18:34

Topsy If you are into murder mysteries, this www.amazon.co.uk/Midnight-Peking-Murder-Haunted-China/dp/0241957176/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368984444&sr=8-1&keywords=Murder+in+Peking is a good one. I read it for the history and found it a bit disturbing on the murder front but if you are not such a wuss as me it is very interesting, he sort of investigates with hindsight

NedSchneebly · 19/05/2013 18:41

Have overdone it in the garden today, my missing back muscle hurts Confused so am relaxing with a Pimms - will put the bottle on the trolley with some fresh mint, lemonade and long tall glasses. chin chin!

Gigondas · 19/05/2013 18:53

Well done ned!!

Agree that fb great for far flung friends-if you limit settings , it's fine ( so don't get spammed).

That book looks good.

Watching Elton John at the bbc from weeks ago. Gigs in bed as big gig tired to point of lunacy. Think she has a Eurovision hangover too.

Gigondas · 19/05/2013 18:54

Good luck to Copt-big week (and good big Copt) . That means get a bit of a half term to revise in peace.

malteserzz · 19/05/2013 19:15

Ned nearly 1000 pounds is fantastic well done !
Coorong I Facebook a lot, use it to keep in touch with everyone and I've had some good support recently. You can see who's online too and in the middle of the night I find it quite comforting to see that others are on too, must have their own reasons why they can't sleep or some are in different time zones
Good luck for all of the exams this week

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 19:55

Ned well done , gosh £1000 pounds can do a lot of good.....

Topsy Also by way of distraction from feelings of doom and gloom if you like a good murder story I can tell you of my sur real encounter with real murder. When I was in Hong Kong I used to hike a lot with a bunch of Americans who lived in an apartment complex up in the hills, they all seemed very nice. So was a bit of a shock when one of their husbands was found dead wrapped up in carpet in (unairconditioned) store room, after she had bludgeoned him to death with an ornament Shock. You just never know with people who is going to turn out to be deranged murderer. Expats friends still debating as my lovely American says at what point when she was drugging her husband and setting about him with the heavy ornament they can concede she was no longer in fact a nice person. Trial continued in surreal fashion especially when she subpoenaed everyone's favourite children's entertainer Scotty the clown as a character witness. He thought she seemed nice as well. More hereen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Robert_Kissel

gigs Can actually recommend Scotty and Lulu's songs and videos for the giggettes, if Mr Gigs not already familiar www.scottylulu.com/about.html

Gigondas · 19/05/2013 20:07

Copt dh keener than ever for together to reminisce as remembers this story- is now going on about bondage dungeons on Hollywood road ...

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 20:21

Ha ha. Yes that other issue of expat debate, everyone knew someone who had seen the husband in bondage dungeons, with ladyboys in Bankok etc but strangely no one had seen him in any of these establishments themselves Wink

Look forward to reminisce especially of DH pulls off early retirement deal and goes back to being on good form. He has been in bed all day as not sleeping properly Sad

smee · 19/05/2013 21:25

Go, Ned..! Mighty impressive. Hope legs not too wobbly. Grin

Copt, Shock at the murder woman. Their poor kids too. Sad

Just nipping in to wish our Topsy all my weight on the paranoia box. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. All will be crossed for celebrations again tomorrow night. xx Smile

Waving to all. Sorry to be in such a hurry. Will be back soon. Smile

malteserzz · 19/05/2013 21:25

Listen to you lot with all the murder talk ! I'm trying to watch the film social network but not getting into it at all. Just read a thread on another site about chemo and scared myself silly, not sure why I do it to myself ?
Hope everyones having a good evening x

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 21:59

smee Terribly Sad for the children

malt Yes I remember making myself scared by being irresistibly drawn to the last chapter of books etc. like picking a scab. Best to resist. And look at how many of us have made it through chemo relatively normal Grin ....

malteserzz · 19/05/2013 22:13

Normal ? Lol
Just a question about the FB group, thanks for adding me. I know it's a closed group but can other FB friends see what you post, does it appear in their newsfeed ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/05/2013 22:14

ned love your back sign - thank you xxxxxxxxFlowers

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/05/2013 22:15

malt - it's just private, between the group members and no one outside the group can see anything

malteserzz · 19/05/2013 22:18

Thank you, just that mums on Facebook and I like her to think I'm coping :)

KurriKurri · 19/05/2013 22:28

Evening all - well done Ned - brilliant fund raising, £1000 is amazing. I hope you had a great day (your sign is lovely Smile) - when I did RFL. I found it a really moving occasion - just a sort of great coming together of women, and reading all the signs people had made - was all very emotional, but in a good way.
Are you working tomorrow or will you get to put your feet up?

Copt - that murder is Shock How awful.
Despite (like topsy) being an avid fan of murder mysteries and detective fiction, in reality it is a dreadful shocking thing when someone's life is taken (I have a couple of friends who have had a family member murdered and it is just horrific)

Malt - step away from the google and other sites. There's a good chance you won't need chemo, but if you do then lots of us on here have had it - it is completely doable, and you very quickly get into a routine of going for your treatment.

Waving to Smee and Gigs and everyone.

You know those evenings when you decide to sit down with a nice mug of Horlicks and watch a detective series on the Beeb, and then the whole world and its dog decides to phone you, one person after another, and you miss the entire programme and your horlicks goes cold? - I have just had that evening! Grin

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 22:47

Yes kk I agree which was why I and other friends found debates about relative badness quite shocking.

Copthallresident · 19/05/2013 22:52

KK the book is better.... though Victoria Wood can do no wrong...

I'm still waiting for them to put the Chelsea Flower Show coverage at 5pm on iplayer because I thought I'd do an extra hour in the garden and then watch it but the recording failed and now you can watch every programme that was on today, Songs of Praise, Antiques Roadshow, Countryfile except the one I actually want to watch Angry Going on Wednesday Smile

KurriKurri · 19/05/2013 23:09

Ooh Chelsea Flower show - you lucky thing Copt, I'd love to go - have a great time.

I might just read the book, although I was looking forward to VW, I like her straight acting.
Countryfile was quite good tonight - sea birds affected by that sticky stuff ships have been dumping, and quite a lot of stuff about highland cattle if you are a fan (and I do like a nice Highland cow Grin).

topsyturner · 19/05/2013 23:34

The baby Highland cow was soooo pretty !

I watched Antiques Roadshow , Country File , and Case Histories .
My name is topsy , and I am a telly addict Grin

Thanks to my sleeping till 3pm , I am now wide awake .
I have been buggering about on Pinterest , and crocheting .
Am now off to the kitchen to search for munches .
