Is there anything i can do about my skin tags?

After a horrendous birth to my beautiful ds (and his BIG head) and suffering from piles while pg, i've been left with skin tags down there, its never bothered me before but i've just started a new relationship and i would be really embarassed if he saw them, its mainly 2 big flappy bits that bother me, they just look unsightly, i wish i could cut them off! (obviously i wont, im not about to perform my own bottom surgery) is there anything i can do to reduce them?

I think you're going to have to show the Gp. It's the only way, then they can remove them for you.

Will they remove them on the nhs though? as they dont bother me at all i thought it might be a cosmetic thing that i would have to pay for myself

It can't hurt to ask, AND they do bother you because it's causing you embarrassment.

I had skin tags on my neck. I talked to GP and they just made another appointment for me at the surgery and they removed them. However, this was probably about ten years ago and, even then, I think some GPs did and some didn't remove them on NHS. Good luck - it doesn't do any harm to ask, does it?

You are not alone! I had a skin tag removed from my perrenium just a few weeks ago. I had a 4th degree tear and episiotomy so a lot of stitching?up required after the birth of my DS 18 moths ago.

You will have to be brave and go to your gp about it, they may not look at it and just refer you to a local gynae consultant. From there the gynae will need to look at it, and arrange to book you in for removal. I had it under local anesthetic, took about 20 mins in surgery and about a week of being very sore and within 10 days back to a new normal. It was definitely worth doing.

I have exactly the same problem since having my children, I think mine sound worse than yours though, I also have ulcerative proctitis so I do t think this helps issues. Mine are also uncomfortable. I actually braved it and saw the GP on Thursday, her reply was its pretty normal and would be classed as cosmetic if I wanted them removed. She also said it would be very painful. I'm not very happy, I don't see why I should have to put up with the discomfort and like you say embarrassment.

Go back for another opinion from a different gp if you can. I would say its not cosmetic if its affecting your life. Mine was extremely painful as it was full of nerve endings but I was already referred to the gynae for suspected prolapse (now confirmed), defect and growth of scar tissue. The consultant said immediately they could remove it no problem so its worth getting a second opinion. You shouldn't have to put up with the discomfort.

Maybe things have changed now, but 10 years ago my DH had skin tags (which had started off as piles) removed from his bum under general anaesthetic in hospital on the NHS. I think the issues were discomfort and difficulty keeping clean, and certainly not cosmetic.
