Is high glucose dangerous in pregnancy?

Yes, it's bad for the baby if not controlled, can lead to the baby either being bigger than it should be or sometimes smaller than it should be and can also lead to heart problems for the baby, problems with control of blood sugar in the first few days and also incrases the risk of breathing probelms after birth. If the glucose level is controlled its not a problem which is why women at risk of gestational diabetes have a glucose tolerance test but an untreated high glucose level is not good for the baby

Yes. If in someone already diabetic before pregnancy, then blood glucose needs to be very well controlled BEFORE conception and during first few months to minimise risk of miscarriage, still birth or birth defects.

In those with diabetes or those who develop diabetes in pregnancy good glucose control is important in the last few months of pregnancy to avoid a very large baby which means a higher risk of intervention in childbirth (forceps, c. section ) or shoulder dystocia. The baby is also at risk of a number of Other problems- hypoglycaemia, jaundice, polycythemia etc.
