I have always been prone to hair shedding bouts but in the past year it's not really stopped. Ferritin levels in November were off the scale low - around 4upg - been taking ferrous fumerate and now around 30. It stopped for a couple of months and then started shedding again.
I went to see a dermatologist today. My sister has AGA. I was worried that my hair shedding was a precursor to that, even though mine is diffuse and still quite a good head of hair whereas hers is typical scalp showing, very very thin.
He said that it is possible that it could be genetic but not worried yet. Any deviation around the crown was in normal range. But yes, it's clear I have a shedding cycle issue.
He said I need to get ferritin levels over 70 and that could take 4-6 months, with another 3 months to see growth.
I'm nervous that it will keep shedding and it's not ferritin related.
Any thoughts?
