Can you take co-codamol 30/500 and tramadol together....

Or an hour apart?
I have gallstones and the co-codamol hasn't helped much neither has a hot bath.
I have some Tramadol from my last admission but don't know if I can take them.
If I hone NHS24 they will send me back to the hospital which I would like to avoid.
If I can't take them then I guess I have no option but would like to avoid that even if only until tomorrow.

Thanks

I wouldn't, they're both opiate based. But I've been off all coedine meds for a while now, and can't remember the rules. You might be better off popping this in chat, as it will get more hits this time of night.

Sorry you're in so much pain. x

I wouldn't - C&P'd from the drug interactions checker my Gp recommended:

Ask your doctor before using codeine and traMADol together. Using these medications together can increase your risk of seizures, breathing problems, and other side effects. If your doctor prescribes these medications together, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. Tell your doctor if you have weak or shallow breathing, tremors, restlessness, seizures, or problems with speech, balance, or walking. Avoid driving until you know how the medications will affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

It's not recommended but I used to do it when I had bad endometriosis pain during my monthly period.

Generally felt like I was extremely pissed but not in a good way.

Try tramadol with paracetamol and ibuprofen together. Or Naproxen if you have any.

sashh · 29/04/2013 05:36

I think you need to leave 4 hours, I take tramadol on a morning and either cocodamol or tramadol in the afternoon depending on pain.

Did you take one or two cocodamol?

muddleup · 29/04/2013 10:33

I take 2 co codamol 4 times a day, I was on the tramadol but they were making my headaches worse so GP changed me back to co codamol, which hasn't really been doing much for the pain.
Am just waiting for a date to go in and get my Gall Bladder removed.
I cant take ibuprofen as I'm on Lithium,
Am just fed up with this and wish the pain would go :(

No- not wise and you could do yourself harm.
If the pain is still very bad with max prescribed 30/500 co-codomol seek medical advice.

Saltire · 29/04/2013 11:14

I used to when I was taking tramadol. The doc told me I could.
However I had to stop the tramadol as I was hallucinating and tripping on it

digerd · 29/04/2013 17:21

People have different levels of tolerance with many drugs.

I was prescribed 30/500 by the hospital after a Hysteroscopy and the dose was 1 to 2.

My BIL had taken 2 on an empty stomach hours before going to the pub for a meal as had a headache. He was fine, even having a beer or 2.

I collapsed unconscious 15 minutes after taking 2 tablets - some weeks later. I was taking no other medication. I had taken 1 before and was fine.

crashdoll · 30/04/2013 08:30

I've always been told it's fine for me to take them together. Post ankle surgery, I took 2 co-codamol (30/500) and 2 tramadol at the same time but only if I was lying down as I tended to feel quite woozy.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 30/04/2013 08:35

Co codalmol and Tramadol can be okay together, but throw lithium in and you've got a disaster.

Dawn2610 · 05/05/2014 02:53

Have you had your goldbladder removed yet hen xx

Dawn2610 · 05/05/2014 02:59

Petitgrain · 05/05/2014 06:24

It's a gallbladder, not a goldbladder.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/05/2014 06:27

Yes you can dawn.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/05/2014 06:27

Petitgrain Hmm

Petitgrain · 05/05/2014 06:35

Better that she knows, I think.

befairdontjudge · 05/05/2014 11:42

According my GP the answer is yes but its frowned on! He does not mind though if I am desperate. So yes but keep quite about it!
