Anyone else have high blood pressure/hypertension?

Last Friday I had a check up with the practice nurse who was very concerned re my blood pressure and I'm due for another reading tomorrow.

My father died at aged nearly 51 from a heart attack (history of highish blood pressure and cholesterol levels). Am now scared I could drop dead at any minute.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

poor you Mercy. At least they have picked it up and you'll be monitored now. I assume they'll check your cholesterol aswell.

I said on nuttie's thread - we found with dh that regular exercise was quite key.

Whoops! - didn't think to search the archives (is it working yet?). Will look for nutcracker's thread, thanks

I have just started medication for high blood pressure. I am now taking labetalol (as I'm still breast feeding, this is one of the meds suitable) I'm hoping it will work as I took atenolol some years ago and it didn't seem very effective at lowering bp. Has anyone experienced any side effects with labetalol? I'm feeling more tired than usual.

Hi, I'm new to all this but have been finding your discussions very intersesting and helpful. I have just discovered I'm PG with 3rd baby but am concerned as have been taking perindopril for high BP up till now. Dr has told me to stop taking them and she will monitor me closely but I'm scared as with DS2 my bp shot up after labour and I ended up being whisked back to hospital by ambulance 5days after delivery (was not on meds up til this point). I was then put on atenolol but then after coming out of hosp a wk later, my dr at the time (since retired) said I shouldn't have been prescribed these as I'm asthmatic. So now I'm worried all this could happen again and although I'm thrilled about being PG I don't want to go through same thing again.
