There must be a migraine drug that works

I'm on topomax which has reduced the fuckers from 10 days a month to 2 or 3 but neither maxalt nor imigran touch them. Ergotamine work maybe 50% of the time (all 3 still give me the full blast of horrible side effects though).

This week I've had a migraine from 7pm every night. Ive just taken a maxalt wafer maybe half an hour ago. Nothing. Its building up and before long I will be vomiting.

Any other ideas? Ive had them 35 years and tried everything.

Have you considered botox and do you have energy saving lightbulbs in your house?

Have you ever tried high dose aspirin(soluble) at the first signs?

Syndol but they took the fecking thing off the shelves though my local chemist still has a stash.

Codeine, paracetamol and a red bull tends to work for me, but you've probably already tried that.

Sympathies OP, I know exactly how you feel I get aura migraines and they are vile.

What does botox do and do you have to pay (am skint)?
Yes, we have low energy lightbulbs but the migraines didnt change when we switched.
They are worse just before my period so years ago I tried the pill and it made them a million times worse. I live in hope of the menopause. My mum said hers improved after the menopause and when she got a pacemaker but my heart is fine.
Yes, I take 3 solubale aspirin at the first hint of pain but nothing.

Botox has massively helped for me plus aspirin in coke at he first signs .
Imigran is nowhere near as good as it used to be.

I second syndol but they're out of licensing again, wish I had stocked up after last time.

Solpadeine is nothing like it.

Botox freezes the muscles around your centre forehead. For me , I get migraine over my eyes a s it stops me scrunching my face.
You can get it on the NHS in some areas for free.

I don't want to sound insipid and flaky with my reply, but I've had five serious migraines over a period of about 15 years where I vomit, hallucinate, shake, am incapicitated, need totally blacked out room, etc. Now whenever I feel a migraine coming on I rub, like crazy, Tiger Balm, in my temples and a migraine hasn't developed for about 8 years since I have been doing that. It seems to stop it in it's track but I need to recognise it in it's early stages

will try the aspirin in coke for tomorrow as its probably too late for this one as I can feel my stomach has shut down and am already nauseous. I hate migraine. bastard wanking fecking things.

My dh gives Botox on the nhs for migraine with really good results. Your Gp should be able to refer you to someone local

Tried the tigerbalm on forhead and neck but its never stopped them. I am under a lot of stress so my neck is definately tight. Its hard to tell if thats a trigger as I'm always under stress but the migraines seem to occur most often the week before my period. As far as I can tell there's no food trigers but I avoid chocolate, oranges, red wine, bread etc anyway.

What about paramol? I think the muscle relaxant in Syndol was the key, doxylamine succinate which you can buy in its own, team that up with codeine and paracetamol and you have homemade syndol. Prob alot cheaper too!

I thought Imigran was great a few years ago and then around a year ago it stopped working for me. Migraines are hideous.

Dh uses Zomig, you need to take it asap after you have the first symptoms so he always carries one with him. It really works for him

Is the immigran you take the nasal spray? That is the only thing that works for me. Often makes me very sleepy so I can try and doze it off. I i guess after all these years you know your triggers? I had to change my job and lifestyle quite a lot to lessen my migraines. Gave up my city job for a job with regular hours so I get enough sleep and less work related stress, barely drink alcohol, don't stay up late, avoid making too many plans as being over busy brings them on. Also moved near my mum so that i have help with dd nearby which makes me less anxious about what would happen if i get a migrane, and therefore leas likely to get one! Good luck, they are really debilitating. Xx

chart is Zomig found over the counter or is it prescription only?

Imigran sumatriptan works for me but only the prescription ones as they're 100mg whereas the over the counter are only 50mg and don't work so well.
Do you know which you tried?
Prescription are Imigran 'Radis' which come in 50mg or 100mg and OTC are Imigran 'Recovery' which I think only come in 50mg.

I have prescription Naramig. I call them my magic pills, they take about 45 mins to work and 3 days of suffering avoided.

I'm in the middle of a battle with this too.
My current plan (as per specialist GP) is, daily beta blocker and amytriptyline to prevent.
At onset of an attack I take 3 paracetamol, 3 aspirin and 2 domperidone. The domperidone is important as during a migraine, your gut emptying increases so you don't absorb the other meds properly, this doesn't always work and I then need to take a Triptan. But this is helping me a bit, as I was getting them for approx 20 days a month a while back. I am also avoiding high sugar foods and alcohol. I have had enough of the impact they have on my life, want to beat them.

I asked about imigran nasal spray and the GP told me it didnt exist but then this GP told me migraines were 'just a headache'. Should have kicked him in the nads and said 'thats just a pain'.
Lack of sleep can make them worse but I have a disabled child who wakes lots and there's nothing I can do about that but again, they tend to occur roughly oncea month. The topomax have helped but have turned me into a dribbling idiot. They arent called 'stupidomax' for nothing!
I've jotted everything down, rubbed tiger balm into everything and sensitive toothpaste into my bad tooth as vomiting makes it hurt like crazy for ten minutes after. Ive got maybe another hour of being able to funtion before I'm driven into bed.

Maybe gopto bed now and try to sleep it off before it develops, really feel for you OP no one can imagine how miserable migraines make you feel.

I could cry just writing this, I feel so down that I can't seem to be free of the,.
I want to ttc a third baby, but the ing stopping me is e though of still having migraines and how I will cope when I have three kids, if I get a migraine.
