I Was booked in for tomorrow. I had to cancel last time due to a chest infection. I got a very heavy period today and am taking tranexamic acid to control it. Do you think I can still donate ?

Sorry I'm not sure kiss.

What about phoning them first thing?

AmberLeaf · 17/04/2013 23:14

Go along, they will do that little test thingy [very technical me!] on your blood, if it's not suitable they will send you on your way.

Someone who knows exactly what that test is for will be able to explain better!

But yes, go anyway [if you feel up to it of course, I know bad periods can wipe you out]

Little drop from a pinprick that is dropped into a tube, it either goes up or down? I forget which is the right/wrong reaction.

expatinscotland · 17/04/2013 23:16

Go along. The finger prick will tell. :)

expatinscotland · 17/04/2013 23:17

Don't like the prick, but children with cancer have them before they go into day unit every time, sometimes 3x/week.

Thank you, for trying to be a donor.

I had to have a blood test while taking tranexamic acid, and the nurse found it very difficult to get enough blood out of me - I have that problem anyway but this was much worse than normal, which we put down to the t.acid. So you may be allowed to, but may not be able to ifswim.

expatinscotland · 17/04/2013 23:25

Drink LOTS of water before the appointment :).

kissmyheathenass · 18/04/2013 09:49

Hi, thanks for replies, I fell asleep before I could read them last night! I have rebooked an appointment for next Wednesday. The nurses often have trouble getting a vein and the thought of all that and then not getting enough blood was too much. So next week it is.

I will nag encourage others to donate too, such a small thing to do such good.
