What IS this???

My glands are swollen in my neck, they hurt when I prod them, my throat feels like it's full of broken glass, it's so swollen even the back of my tongue is inflamed and I can hardly swallow, and I have got dizziness, a bit like vertigo, or that weird nauseous dizziness you get when you've had too much to drink. But I haven't got flu or anything, because my nose isn't blocked or runny (TMI, sorry, but then I AM the snottsleeved one, so I am allowed to be gross)

What the hell is it, anyone got any idea? It hurts and I feel lousy Sad We were planning a big walk on Dartmoor tomorrow. Sad

Tonsillitis? I certainly remember the broken glass in the throat feeling. Can you see white/yellow gunk on your tonsils?

Greensleeves · 13/05/2006 17:49

I'll have a look :)

sounds like severe tonsilitus to me, had it a few times very dizzy with it (did actually fall overBlush) and my throat killed like my thrat was grazed by broken glass then had acid poured down it, best advice is to take some painkillers and try to sleep as much as you can and if you need to call the doctor out hope you feel better soon Smile

Greensleeves · 13/05/2006 17:54

OK, there are BIG white lumps on my tonsils and the edge of my adenoids (according to dh, I know nothing about the anatomy of the throat) and big angry red lumps in clumps as well... it looks horrible

You poor thing , does sound like a nasty bout of tonsillitis. Gargling should help - soluble aspirin or paracetamol and an antiseptic mouth wash but you may gag at first. Also try strong throat lozenges like Merocaine with an anaesthetic/antibacterial effect. However you may well find that by now you need antibiotics to shift it. Don't overdo it tomorrow or you'll feel worse and try to have small portions of soft food like soup or ice cream and soothing drinks.

Hope you feel better soon.

Greensleeves · 13/05/2006 19:31

Do you think Vicks Chloroseptic is a good idea, or will it sting? My glands are really sticking out from my neck, I look like a gerbil Shock

Is that the squirty one ? sounds ideal but don't push it too far back in your mouth or you'll gag. May feel cold and numbing to begin with.

Yorkiegirl · 13/05/2006 20:15

if your glands are out liek that it could well be glandular fever. I looked like I had swallowed a golf ball when I had it!

Amiable · 14/05/2006 03:51

Greensleeves - definitely sound like tonsilitis. I've been getting it regularly since I was a kid - not pleasant! Sad

You will almost definitely need antibiotics to get rid of it, but in the meantime gargle with soluble aspirin, drink lots of water, and plain ice cream always makes me feel better too!

Get better soon. (Tamba too!)

redbull · 14/05/2006 09:22

how are you feeling today grensleeves??Smile

Greensleeves · 14/05/2006 12:12

Thanks for asking redbull :) Feel pretty crap, throat looks really bad, but dh let me sleep in until 12 Shock and has cooked lunch, which is nice. I think I am going to spend the afternoon on the sofa wrapped in a blanket "directing operations" while dh does all the things I usually do on Sundays (change beds, ironing etc)Grin I'll go to the doctor tomorrow and get some ABs.
