At lunchtime today i was at ds2's school for a meeting, standing chatting towards the end, when i suddenly got terrible pains in both feet, running down the outside of each foot and up towards my ankles. Initially i thought it was cramp, but 6 hours later i can barely weight bear and the pain has me in tears. I had to get a friend to drop me to get teh kids and blag a lift back home, dd1 is having to cook dinner because i just tried to walk and ended up crying because it hurt so much to take even half a dozen steps.

Any ideas?

Have you been walking all that was in unsuitable footware?

lou33 · 09/05/2006 21:43

nope, been in flop flops or my plimmies or barefoot

flip flops and bare feet are probably the cause of your problem.
they cause alot of impact to your foot with no support to the arch.
try wearing some supportive trainers, regular anti-inflammitories and consider getting a foot arch support from the chemist or a poediatrist.

i went barefoot and into flip flops today because i thought it would be more comfy with the pain

i never ever wear trainers and never ever will, there has to be an alternative to trainers

that link says it is on the inside of the foot, mine is on the outside

PMSL at will never wear trainers. You sound like Lola, I will never ever never wear a pair of trainers. DMs? (the shoes not the boots) walking boots?

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 09/05/2006 22:21

I'd try and see a chiropractor or osteopath tomorrow tbh Lou.

puff · 09/05/2006 22:26

an ex boyfriend of mine had pain v similar which came on suddenly. IIRC, he was diagnosed as having fallen arches, which had then led to some kind of tendonitis in his feet - not sure if it was the one chapsmum linked to.

It did get sorted - he had to wear special arch supports for a while.

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 09/05/2006 22:27

or a podiatrist. I was thinking of back problems when I mentioned a chiropractor/osteopath.

lou33 · 09/05/2006 22:39

really, the thought of wearing trainers fills me with utter horror!

dont have that sort of cash jimjams Sad

i have v high arches tho, unlike dd1 who has ironing boards as feet

i dunno

i just took a laod of painkillers about 30 mins ago, i am goign to try and stand up soon and go for a smoke and to finish the lunches fro tomorrow, so i will know soon if they are working or not

you can go to a sports shop like tiso or achillies heal, they can tell you if your need alineing and could give youinsole.
Definatley need to wear some kind of supportive foot wear, walking boots if nes.

lou33 · 09/05/2006 23:02

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 09/05/2006 23:04

Think you can get NHS podiatrists/chiropodists- of course the wait will be sooooo long that it's be ridiculous but might be worth asking. My GP does acupuncture, anyone in the practice do anything like that.

PMSL @ your horror over walking boots :o

chapsmum · 09/05/2006 23:06
