Ok some may have read this on the conception/pg boards but here goes..

We've been ttc for a year now. Until Feb my periods were regular between 28/30 days. then in Feb I had a 32 day cycle and in MArch a 35 day one. I went to gp in March who said they would do day 21 blood test and thyroid function etc to check that am ovulating and no problems with thyroid. Then in april I didn't have a proper af, just a small amount of spotting which last for approx 12 hours and then stopped. Was very simptomatic after that, nausia/tiredness/emotional/coming out in spots. Did two pg tests over the next week and they were both bfn. Went to gp and she said that my bloods had come back normal for thyroid and that I'd ovulated. She said that pg tests aren't always reliable, to leave it two weeks and to then do another pg test which she was sure would be positive.

Then last saturday (a week after I saw gp) I had a lot of discharge, very mucousy type discharge and originally thought my af had arrived - in fact posted as much on here. But although I had a small amount of blood, mostly it was just cm. I had no pain, nothing. Discharge stopped by sunday morning.

Am still feeling a bit nausious, but as I'm now sure I'm not pg, am trying not to take any notice of that. Went back to gp this morning, and she said she would do a blood hcg level. When I asked what else it could be, she just said that they will do this blood test for now and that will tell her whether or not I am pg, didn't offer up any other explanations, had me in and out of there within 5 minutes, and although I said to her and the nurser that this was doing my head in, they just smiled and nodded and said they understood, but that was it. I've been told blood tests will take a week to 10 days to come back, but in the meantime I'm in limbo, with no explanations, possible answers, and I've still not had a proper af since the 21nd of March. And it feels as if no-one in the medical profession gives a toss.

Sorry for long post.

Sorry that you feel unloved, wannaBe1974. The medical profession does not give a toss, perhaps until after 12 weeks ... I had a +ve pregnancy test and at 6 weeks, GPs said not to book in any appointments yet until I was further along, implying that I could lose it in the next few weeks! When I challenged the dating scan with my basal temp charts, they just smiled indulgently and ignored me, just relying on LMP. NHS and all that. I am sure a private doctor would be more sympathetic, but you may not want to go down that route.

juuule · 09/05/2006 13:48

Why are you sure that you are not pg? If it was me I would do another pg test.

chapsmum · 09/05/2006 14:49

wannabe, this is rubbish but to be honest I dont think the GP will be able to give you any kind of definative answer. You have a pretty complex obs and gyn problem and tbh it all sounds a bit like unexplained hormonal fluctualtions ?early pregnancy ??unexplanned. Maybe an obstetric consultant could answer your questions but gps are jack of all trades master of none. Which is crap when you are looking for answers.
Please dont feel that they dont give a toss they probagly genuinely dont know what the explaination is. They probably dont know how to admit it without lossing face that they dont know all the answers.
Anyway i give a toss, I remember being treated like a school girl at epas and it was horrid and vowed never to let any of my patients feel like that.

Will keep my fingers crossed you get the answers you are looking for.

didnt mean to say problem, ment to say history! sorry wannabeBlush

The last test I did was on Sunday and that was bfn. I'm now on day 51 without a proper af, and meanwhile I've had spotting on cd28, mucousy discharge on cd48, but no af. tbh I've now got to the point where not knowing if I'm pg isn't bothering me so much, after all, if I'm pg then that will become apparent soon enough test or no test, but it's the htought there could be something else wrong and gp doesn't seem to care. sure I understand her need to iliminate pregnancy from the equasion, but why can't she do full hormone/blood count at the same time?

Take yourself to the local EPU clinic and explain they can do hcg test and get the results back within a few hours.
If they are test for hcg they are bascially seeing if there is any human hormone floating around in there which would indicate pregnancy-These levels increase by a set standard amount daily which would indicate a healthy pregnancy but if they increase randomly, by not enough or decrease then it is likely to be a failing pregnancy or ectopic. if you still feel stuck let me know and I will see if i can help, having been through all this and more many times! hth

chapsmum · 09/05/2006 14:54

wannabe the biggest thing she needs to rule out is an ectopic preg, this would be confirmed or ruled out by your hcg levels.
Additionally Could you possibly just have been ovulating on cd48?? that would mean that you would not get a positive untill about 14 days after...

wannaBe1974 · 09/05/2006 14:58

I hear what you're saying chapsmum and of course I realize that they don't have all the answers and I guess can't really give an answer in case of it being wrong. but this is the same gp who two weeks ago told me she was sure I was pregnant, in fact to do a test in two weeks and if it was bfn she would "eat my hat". she was more than happy to give an apparently definite answer back then and now that she seems to have been proved wrong she seems stumped as to what could be up and doesn't even want to chance a second guess.

I do know that this is it for me now in terms of ttc, I can't go here again, but I do want to know what is wrong, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared that it could be something serious.

what worries you the most wannabe?
you on msn just now, wnat a chat?

wannaBe1974 · 09/05/2006 15:03

am pretty sure it wasn't ovulation on cd48 as am sure I ovulated on cd13, and day 21 blood test did confirm that I ovulated this cycle.

It just seems strange that things were fine until about three months ago and then periods have suddenly become eratic out of nowhere. I know it's not my thyroid function as had one of those tests as well because I had an overactive thyroid 12 years ago which actually had exactly the same effect on me - my periods stopped suddenly. and tbh, the alternatiives I have spinning round in my head don't bear thinking about.
