Is this slapped cheek?

Ds has a rash on his face - it is very pink and a bit rough on one cheek, and then slightly pink around his eyes and nose area. He is slightly off colour - snotty nose etc. I took him to the GP this morning who said she wasn't convinced it was slapped cheek (although I think it probably is) and said it could be, or it could be excema. Any suggestions? What would be things to look for in each of these? I'm keeping him away from toddler groups today, but he seems ok in himself. He's 2 1/2 btw. Thanks!

There's a picture of slapped cheek here . If you search on "fifth disease", the American name, you get lots more hits. When my ds had it his cheeks looked very flushed, but it came and went, and never looked really rash like, it was more uniform IYKWIM.

My ds1 2.8 had exactly the same thing you describe, he looked like he had been coloured-in by a doll maker, IFYSWIM, slightly snotty and undertheweather but nothing too serious. Like you we kept and eye on him, didn't let him exert himself and gave the odd dose of Kalpol at bedtime if he seemed a bit poorly.
It soon gave way to the next round of kid's winter lurgies and never became a serious concern.
