I would like to encourage anyone who has really heavy periods to see the doctor, I have put up with it for years and reached breaking point, I had an appointment today to look into the mirena coil, I am getting it fitted in a month, the doctor has given me other tablets to take if I get a period inbetween so i dont have to put up with it. I cant believe it was so easy, have never ;eft a doctors appointment feeling so happy.

Good luck with the coil. I suggest you do some research on it and go with an open mind. Going with the thought that you will no longer have heavy periods may leave you disappointed.

I went from hideous periods to light spotting with the mirena-it has been fantastic for me. My dr and 2 of my friends have them and it's silmilar for them. I didn't find the fitting uncomfortable-less so than a smear test. I did lose the strings once, but the dr found them!
However, one friend didn't get on with it all though-she's allergic/sensitive to a lot of things and I think this was the same.
Good luck Smile
