Any pharmacists or doctors there? Is it safe to change from chloramphenicol to fusidic acid?

My son has conjunctivitis and whilst I was waiting for a doctors appointment I got some chloramphenicol from the chemist.

The doctor has prescribed fusidic acid, (didn't actually see the doctor) and I want to know if I can safely switch. I want to switch so that I can send him to school - the fusidic acid doesn't need applying as often.

I just want to know if it is safe to switch.

Thanks
