my friend's dd is 1.5yrs and has prominent black circles under her eyes. it's def not lack of sleep as she sleeps 12 hrs at night and 1-2 hours in the day. is it a sign of deficiency of some sort and should she be worried?

DD (nearly 5) has this and when i asked the GP about it he said it was hereditary! she sleeps enough, has a good diet (i even give her vitamins to make sure)...

My DS (2.6) is the same - looks permanently tired, but is a fantastic sleeper and eats well!!!

Bagpuss, it can be a sign of allergies, called allergic shiners. My ds (22 months) has multiple food allergies and they always become more prominent when he accidentally gets any of his "bad foods" in his system.

Other than that, I am sure it is probably hereditary. My dh always has dark circles under his eyes and looks tired, which is more noticable over the winter.
