Had first bout February, treated with antibiotics. No tonsillitis beforehand, although I am prone to that too. Have had basic sore throat pretty much constantly since then but it went last week.

Anyway, sang in a concert on Saturday night. No problems. Then had a sore neck on the way home. Woke at 3am in a lot of pain and knew the Quinsy was back. Went to A&E and given 7 days Penicillin V. Went back to bed. Woke up much worse with the full range of symptoms - couldn't speak properly, epiglottis moved to one side etc etc.

Now 3 days in and I still can't open my mouth more than about 1.5 cm, which is not amusing when it comes to eating. I can't speak properly due to the swelling and my throat still kills when I swallow and liquids go up my nose due to me trying to "throw them back" to avoid it hurting.

How long will this last? Has anyone else felt that their quinsy was triggered by singing/ shouting etc?

Any advice / epic quinsy stories appreciated!

I've had 5 quinsys in my life, over a period of 9 years, so can consider myself an expert.

The worst bout lasted over 3 months, but dont panic, it was after a long and traumatic birth of DS1!

The trouble is that sometimes antibiotics dont get rid of it totally, it fills up again if your immune system goes down. Ended up in hospital one time, and they wanted to drain it, but i discharged myself and luckily it burst that night (very dangerous, as if you swallow the pus and it enters your blood stream youre in trouble!).. i spat out pints of crap, no kidding!

Gargle with soluble pain killers to numb your throat, and then drink as much as you can, as its easy to get dehydrated..

I feel for you, i really do, its tough going, hope you get better soon!
Btw. i havent had a quinsy for over 15 years now, so that weakness can just somehow disappear.

9! Ive had it once in my whole life and that was enough.
It was awful, sore throat doesn't even cover it. My whole head hurt.
I had nothing other than hot ribena and mushed bananas for a week, I lost more than a stone.

I had a throat abscess and ended up with an operation and have a 2 inch scar on my neck now. Not nice :-(
